Well, it's in the "off topic" category and "politics" happen to be a hot topic right now. Things are still happening in the news and being digested......not everyone has voted already.

If you have voted already, I can see where you would think a 'political' thread was a moot point......the voting has not ended for everyone.


Perhaps Sharon was right......if you don't want to get involved, stay in the freebie section.....

"locking" a thread is stifling a dialogue.....just like what's being done in politics today.....dismiss and ignore....it doesn't make the issue(s) go away....

Locking this thread will prevent future arguments from people who may not know how to debate properly.
It's one thing to be passionate about a topic or canidate, but when names are being called and people are being picked on for their views....we've proven there is no room for that here, on a freebie/deal website.

Now Butty, you know that Jeb and I love you to pieces! But truth be told, I don't think anyone is really getting petty or routy at this point in time. Politics are inflamming for the human species. There are many very tolerant, and, humorous views expressed in this thread! Would have it mattered had the thread been supportive of Obama, and, bashing McCain? The results and thought processings would have been the same. Just depends on your affliations, hey, did I spell that right?!?! I think Jimmy can "dish out" and "take a few" with the best of us. The election is a wonderful thing to debate. We can invision the First and Second Continental Congress up in Phili Pa. with the delegates barking and hollering at each other until the final role call! In the end, they shook hands, signed the Declaration of Independence, and, walked away. So far with this thread, it has not become to painfully personal, and, let's keep it that way. Locking it down will leave us discussing mundane issues, and, I personally would like to believe that Spoofeers are more intelligent and curious of nature than to be boring and unenlightened. You think Obama is going to hurt the health care system? We spend more money on health care than any other developed nation. We are overmedicated and undertreated. Pharmaceutical companies are making tens of billions in net profit. How is that not a hurt health care system?

Obama on energy? Well, it is just too bad the Republicans repeatedly (along with McCain) against raising the CAFE standards to reduce the amount of oil we use by driving our vehicles. It is too bad that all the renewable energy research that Jimmy Carter started three decades ago was canceled by Reagan. Oh... but we can't trust Obama on energy? Why? Because he thinks we can't drill our way out of this problem? That is actually a substantiated fact. We don't have enough oil reserves to do so. And worse yet, thanks to Reagan's short-sightedness, instead of the US being able to be energy independent and making a financial killing on export oil and natural gas, we are beholden to other nations to get it.

Jimmy, you are energized and excited about your choice in candidates, and, applaud your aplomb and your desire to exercise your vote. If I could be so bold at to proffer a suggestion, it would be to get your facts straight, and, get them from someplace other than the telly or internet where liberalism abounds. Go on to a government watch dog site, go into the FBI and CIA sites and glean open files to read. Always make sure that what you are ingesting is truly worth swallowing. It was Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson during the Civil War who stated "Duty is ours. Consequences are Gods." Let's all hope God is watching this unfold.

Dude, I don't get my data from anything but the first source (typically government statistics, think tank papers). It is odd that you seem to think I live in the liberal blogosphere... I don't even visit it. It is odd that because I can back up my opinion (which happens to disagree with yours) you seem to think I must be misinformed. Maybe the fact that you can't back up your opinion is a sign of the inadequacy of your own opinion. Perhaps you could take some of your own advice.

Personally, I can't wait for the final countdown to finish. Hopefully the lawsuits will all be resolved and the Republicans fail in trying to put hundreds of thousands of votes in limbo, such as with Ohio. Hopefully Indiana goes Obama and we'll know it'll be a fun night real early! That is doubtful however, and it probably won't be until 12 AM or 1 AM when the election is called for Obama.

Dude, people can't let pronouns get to them like that. I guess that is the best you can levy, which exposes how little you actually know about either of the candidates. Which is fine, it puts you quite on par with the average American voter in terms of understanding the issues.

However, more importantly, it puts you in the minority as the average American will be voting for Obama which is enforced by racially inert states like North Dakota (tied), South Dakota (McCain 7 pt lead), Montana (McCain 4 pt lead) being real close (Bush won them by 20 to 27 pts in '04). We'll see that this indeed is a widespread American vote for Obama instead of the polarized victory that W won in '04. Obama will have more than double the EV's of McCain and 10 million more votes than McCain, 8 to 10 more seats in the Senate and over a dozen more seats in the House. How is that for a mandate!
 
I'm totally with preco on that! (whoops i missed a page, not locking the thread I mean) I thought being that for now it's still called America-we already HAD alll agreed to disagree?

If this thread gets locked because of passionate discussion it would be a shame. And one more instance of our liberty and freedom being squelched.

I must say, after doing some actual non-partisan research, while I don't agree with McCain on everything-the Obama is starting to scare me. The more I read, the more it sounds like Socialism to me.

Maybe it's all useless..."you will be assimilated".....only it'll be the majority being assimilated by the minority.

I honestly don't think any one of us can truly predict what will happen to this country under either McCain or Obama. Talk is cheap pre-election. Let's just hope for better than we have now (shouldn't be too hard, eh?)

Allow me to enlighten you on medical perspectives because out of anyone else on Spoofee, I have a front row seat, and, have for forty plus years. I just returned from Australia where the Government runs the show on medical practices, pharmaceuticals, and, care in general. IF IF IF IF it was such a wonderful system would you mind telling me WHY seventeen American Doctors (of which I was one) and nurses had to go over and donate time to care for the sick and dying? It just doesn't work, period. We lost one man to liver failure, why....because the Government would not let him get a much needed MRI for nine months, to late then. I have my facts straight young man...it only takes you one time to hold a two and a half year old baby in your arms while it takes it last breath because the Government would not okay the necessary antibiotics to fight its lung infection that here in the States we would have cleared up. Socialized medicine is a nightmare. As far as the pharmaceutical companies are concerned, here are your so called facts, and, not opinions...yes indeed they make billions of dollars. What makes YOU think that YOU should get a cut of their pie?!?! My son is a PhD. Pharmacist, and a Researcher (just like his Mommy!) and truth be told, the companies release tons of free medications, give discounts on others to lend a hand. Just ask your DOCTOR to request them for you. (A tip to all here by the way, yes, we can indeed try for you for some help, just ASK!) There are so many, many, devoted and loving parents on this site with kids that they are struggling to raise and keep healthy. Just go ahead and tell any mother that there is something "wrong" with her child and see if you come out with the balls you went in there with! Our Dad's need a greater voice with their children as their job is undaunting trying to keep food on the table, worrying about health care, education, Dad's get shafted under Obama's educational plan and frankly they deserve better. The money will not be there for Obama to revamp the system as he states, and if it is, other debt is coming down the pike. Wonder how many Father's here on Spoofee toss and turn at night wondering if their children will be in debt after college? I bet there are quite a few, ask the ladies how well their husbands sleep at night. You won't get "an opinion" you will get the truth.

To lend a hand? You mean to get Americans more overmedicated. The Pharmaceutical companies pay millions and millions in marketing and advertising... heck most of their commercials don't even tell you what the drug is for. Funny, 47 million Americans lack health care coverage. About 1 in 12 children in this country doesn't have medical coverage. Oh, what a relief it is that it is only 1 in 12. Just around 9 million, what a heralding success! cite

Families? Over half of bankruptices in America are related to medical expenses! cite Yeah, so all that hard work and effort gets evaporated before your own eyes thanks to the existing medical system.

Oh please. More hollow arguments from emotion. Revolution? It was liberals the whole time. Liberals came up with the idea that education should be available to all, not just the rich. Liberals came up with the idea that slavery should be banned. Liberals came up with the idea that a job shouldn't be a death sentence (notice how mining disasters are rarer in America than China?). Liberals said inter-racial marriage shouldn't be a crime (Loving v Virginia). Most of the changes for the better that have occurred in American history were because of progressive minded people saying we need to improve on what we have, not act like radical Islamists, vying for the better yesterday.

You know, just for perspective... the Walter Reed Scandal referred to the time when the Republicans ran the White House and both houses of Congress. I find it odd that it took the "liberal" media to break that story... instead of a veteran who cares about the troops like John McCain. Why didn't John McCain know about the conditions, didn't he at least visit Walter Reed once?

No kidding. That's why I've reduced my home's heating energy footprint by 80% (investing in my own home what was needed to drop my natural gas usage by 80%) and my car's energy footprint by 50+% (drive an Insight... bought it in 2001).

I've been sacrificing energy and material goods wise for years. In fact, I can't make my home much more efficient. I've nearly max'd out. I drive a car that gets 70 to 85 mpg on the highway. So you don't need to lecture this person about conservation. I hang my clothes on a clothesline!

I love the American people, but the truth is, we want to have our cake and eat it to! The time is now here where the energy pinch is turning into a squeeze and Americans are not going to want to tighten up.

No amount of money is worth compromising my soul over, or living with myself by claiming an innocent life. Children are so precious to me that I cannot fathom digging one out of the womb and throwing it into a trash can. Those designs are for the Mother's having to make such a decision, and, while it is my hope for alternative thinking and resolutions, sadly it is far to easy to "erase the mistake" than to find alternative plans. Life is never to be thrown away, it should be cherished and there is your fact. My thoughts and prayers are for the mothers placed into that position. We should never let them down, or their unborn child. Obama sings and dances around the issue. I would like to invite him into an OR for an abortion and see if he would stand his ground...or you for that matter. Let me know, and, I will see what I can do for you.

I've watched a partial birth abortion be performed. I know exactly how it looks. So enough with this argument from emotion again. Fact to me, as a guy, I have no right to tell a woman what to do with her own body.

Don't tell me he is for women's rights, no he isn't. He voted against the bill to protect Latino women and their children from abuse. Why? What is the difference between a Latino woman and a Black or White woman? For those of us who view the other as merely "sisters" on this pilgrimage, abuse is abuse, and when one woman is hurt, ALL WOMEN should be outraged. Sadly, because they spoke Spanish, Obama could have cared less. Not so with McCain, and, there sir are your facts.

You want facts...here is one for you...there is never a more explosive group than to get women from all creeds, colors and cultures together for in the end, women will indeed rise to take care of women and their children! Just go ahead and tell any mother that there is something "wrong" with her child and see if you come out with the balls you went in there with! Our Dad's need a greater voice with their children as their job is undaunting trying to keep food on the table, worrying about health care, education, Dad's get shafted under Obama's educational plan and frankly they deserve better. The money will not be there for Obama to revamp the system as he states, and if it is, other debt is coming down the pike. Wonder how many Father's here on Spoofee toss and turn at night wondering if their children will be in debt after college?

Yeah... let's think. "Attack"? I haven't attacked anyone. I expressed a clearly thought out opinion. To far right-wingers these days, that is considered an "attack". So let's not make with broad exaggerations that misrepresent what another person is saying.

Passion is one thing, and, foolishness is another. These are really good folks, who are equally as passionate for their party, their needs. They have their own fears and designs as do you. For you see this election reminds me of a perfume commerical from many, many years ago that went like this "Promise her anything, but, give her Arpage!" They will promise anything to get elected, but, it remains our duty as Americans to stay on top of policies and push for actions which are to the betterment of our country and ALL AMERICANS.

Well, that'd clearly be the Obama camp seeing McCain wants 8 more years of W... and based on McCain's health, a number of those years would be under the superlight featherweight Sarah Palin. Obama wants to cut taxes for 95 of 100 Americans. Of the other 5, all he is doing is cutting back the Bush tax cut. Obama wants to raise the ceiling for the FICA tax rate, which will make the tax a tad less regressive. Obama wants to redevelop the foreign policy that actually works... that helps to prevent terrorist attacks like the planned Millennial Attacks. Obama wants to have health care reform so that 47 million Americans aren't uninsured, that hard working families no longer go into bankruptcy because of medical bills.

Does that mean socialism? Heck no. Socialism is a stupid buzzword that right-wingers use for anything that they don't like. What is socialism? Well Bush partially nationalizing the banks... that's socialism. Obama is a left leaning moderate, not some sort of kooky Karl Marx follower. You'll need to remember that Barrack Obama voted for the Telecommunications Immunity bill, a bill that gave immunity to the telecom companies that aided the Bush Administrations to spy on every American. Obama is hardly the messiah to the left-wing, he is hardly the person that AM Radio hosts make him out to be. States like North Dakota and Montana would not be voting for a Socialistic Nut.

In a couple years, you will see that Obama is much more moderate than you want to claim he is... you may not admit it then, but the actions will speak quite clearly for themselves. The Democratic Party has so moved to the center. You want to say they are crazy socialists, but many of the recent Senate wins by the Democrats were by people like Senator Jim Webb in Virginia who is a centrist Democrat, not some loony Marxist. People such as him would not allow this feared socialistic state that people like you are for some reason frightened about.
