Just be careful you don't overdo it!!! My Dad was rushed back to work after each of his shoulder operations and eventually ended up on total disability.

Did you try just taking alot of Advil? Check w/your Dr. first because I wouldn't want to advise you wrong, but you can safely take a lot more then the over-the-counter directions. (Not as a regular habit mind you)! Rx strenth is like 3 regulars and doesn't seem to mess w/my head, although it makes me a bit more tired.

The brace would drive me crazy too! Especially to sleep. But be glad it's not a big huge belly full of baby keeping you from getting comfy!...for 9 months and THEN the pain comes :)!

I'm not trying to be a hero, and I'm no fan of being in pain.
The bottom line is that I have to work (worker's comp would only pay about 1/2 my income) and the meds mess with my thinking.
I'm not in constant pain, mostly it just suddenly feels like someone stabbed me in the knee, and then it clears up after a few minutes. What's more of a problem is the annoyance of being confined, wearing this brace (though I'm very thankful it's not a cast). and not sleeping well. And yes, I do take the meds before I go to bed.

Dan,
A couple of thoughts here: First, while I completely understand your reluctance to take the meds (I have been the same way my whole life!) I have come to understand that "toughing it out" can actually hinder the healing process. That being said, I think you should just call your doc and be candid with him and see if he/she will suggest either a less narcotic RX or as Cybermom suggested, OTC medications. It does not have to be just what the doc originally prescribed and that's it. They are usually very receptive to amending orders to help you heal. Toughing it out could actually slow down your recovery.
Secondly, are you stone-cold certain about the Workers Compensation being at 50% of your actual pay? In a previous life (ha ha) I managed a worker's health clinic which was as the title suggests was to deal with all things worker-related. At the time, Worker's Compensation was paid at at much higher reimbursment than 50% of your actual pay~~unemployment was reimbursed at 50% of your pay. I just want to make sure you were not given misleading info so you did not pursue it all the way. Again, I have been out of the industry for a while and rates may have changed, etc., but if it meant you could take a little time off and recuperate, it might be worth it.

Take good care of yourself. I will keep you in thoughts and prayers:loving:

Max ibuprofen/day = 3200 mg....so yes, more than recommended on the bottle. Just make sure you aren't combining it with another anti-inflammatory so you don't rip your stomach apart/bleed. Eat with it. Alternate with some Tylenol if you want. Yes, don't suffer at the expense of not wanting to take something for the pain. My hubby tried that after his back surgery recently. Was taking all of one Vicodin tablet per day and maybe an Ibuprofen tablet/day. Dummy. He was moping around in pain because he didn't want to overdue the meds. Dummy because he is a pharmacist and should know that meds are there for a reason. Dan, I hope you heal up quickly and fully. Take it easy. :)

The wage compensation is supposed to be 66%, but there's a dollar/week limit as well. That's what's making it untenable.

My 7 year old is playing on the Wii-fit. We've been trying to get him to gain weight. So he was working on setting his goal. He came into the kitchen and told me,

"I want to grow one pound and eight imbasol's!"....i almost fell over laughing. I think I'm already growing two little imbasol's!

I'm full.........................:)

Are you folks in the north enjoying the 8 to 10 inches of 'global warming'?

We are going to get the cold snap mid week on the Island with temps in the low teens. If I am gonna be cold, I would not mind some snow to go along with the misery!!!
