Memorex 512mb USB TravelDrive for Free + Make $8 After Pricematch

When I did it today, I did as the OP suggested (except I bought it in the store). When they price matched, she only gave me 30.05 + tax which was 32.15. I didn't get 110% of the price difference, was I supposed to?

Other than that, this worked great.

well.. ALMOST!

out of curiousity, was anyone denied the price match?

It seemed like they tried as hard as they could to NOT pricematch.

They first scrutinized the ads, then had trouble figuring out if the one I bought was 512.

Then she CALLED the local Staples, got to the department, and tried every whichway to get out of it. She asked them their price, and if it was in stock, and if there were rebates. Even after getting all of the right answers, she asked them in a disgusted tone "so you're telling me I can come there RIGHT NOW and walk out with one of these for $30, RIGHT!?!"

I figured she'd then call a manager over to let him try to find a problem, but more customers were starting to pile up so she FINALLY did the PM..

SPYDO, where in FL did you have this lovely experience? I can't believe they'd go to that much trouble. The CC I went to today has internet, so the MGR was just able to go on line and look at Staples ad. The only reason they checked it was the number in the Staples ad wasn't the same as the number on the actual item packaging. Once he saw it was the same, as the number was listed on the Staples website, it was not a problem.

I'd say, take the Staples ad AND print out the page from the website so they can see the numbers are indeed the same.

This was in Melbourne FL. I actually printed the staples ad and handed it to her. They confirmed the numbers matched. But she said they had to be in stock at the Staples (which is odd- I could go to one of 4 Staples if it wasn't), and not have rebates, and be new, and so on and so on.. Like I said she tried REALLY hard to NOT PM!

Staples just opened last week in Miami - thank goodness, more competition, more items to PM!!!!

I P/M CC all the time and never had any major problems. :bigok:

Well it wasn't a major problem- just a bit of a pain. But thinking about calling another store- what if Staples had just sold the last one and was getting more in tomorrow? Calling other stores to check inventory is just another "loophole"..

Rebates are the worst they have so many ways to weasel out. I had one recently that was returned because I didn't write an adequate paragraph of "why I love their car wax"... Geesh!

Yes, you were supposed to get 110% of the price difference back...it's part of their price matching policy

Circuit City PM Policy
"If you've seen a lower advertised price from another local store with the same item in stock, we want to know about it. Bring it to our attention, and we'll gladly beat their price by 10% of the difference. If you see a lower advertised price (including our own sale prices) within 30 days of your purchase, we'll refund 110% of the difference."

Score! Thanks Spoofee!

I just picked it up no problem. The guy behind the counter didn't ask any questions, just put it in the system and gave me the 110% back. Easy as pie.

$59.99 + $4.40 tax - $35.37 PM ($33.06 + $2.31 tax) = $28.82 out the door. After rebates = $6.18 in my pocket!

Sweetness! :D :bigok: :claps:

I just pulled out the slip- guess I DID get the 110% afterall..

59.99 - 33.06 = 26.93 + tax 1.62 = 28.55 , after rebates, like $6 for spydo too!

Thanks Spoof!

;)

PS: this drive is a little weird...

Popped it in the linux FC4 box USB, the system doesn't see it. Had my office mate pop in his sandisk, came right up.

Tried it in XP, it *eventually* appeared.

I checked the instructions, no linux mentioned. I sat on hold for tecxh support for 1/2 hour and gave up..

Weird!

sorry.. i am new. i have some questions.
can u PM in any of the stores or it has to be the one that u bought it from?
i went to the CS (where i bought it) and it there were a trio of *****es saying that the product has rebates and it will come out cheaper than the one in stapless and they reject my PM..... WTh? Do they have the rigth to do that?

lalachapchap, I am not sure if you can go to a different Circuit City for the price match. Maybe try calling another store in your area and ask them? Just come up with a believable story - bought it near home, looking to PM it during your lunch hour, etc.

These deals depend greatly on the rep behind the counter. You may have to try the same store and with a different set of CC reps to do the PM for you. Maybe try early morning?

Good Luck!

do they change the reciept or anything ?? cause u have to send in a copy of it to get the rebate ??????????????????????????????

did anyone try doing it in new jersey ???

110%?!

You think I can go back and ask them to refund the extra 10%?? I feel gypped... lol...
