WD 120GB 8MB $79.99, 80GB $59.99 off the shelf, no rebates!

The manager wasn't "stubborn". He was right. The CC pricematch policy states that the store that has the item cheaper, MUST have the item IN STOCK. You said yourself that best buy was OOS, so the manager was following the rules.

I'd love to know what you guys are smokin. Just went to best buy. 80gb wd se 8mb buffer hard drive is 139.99

Nope, the one for 139.99 is not the one w/ the 8 mb buffer......don't post unless you know what you are talking about.

I know exactly what I'm talking about and I'll post whereever I feel like

Hey, hey... :D
I just got back fresh from Best Buy. Big smile on my face. :D

Here is how it went:
1. the display price of the drive was $179 with a $60 rebate = $119
2. I asked for a price match with CC for $79.99, but they said no since $79.99 was after rebate and BB had a rebate too. So, they offered the drive to me for $89 but no rebate. I said fine, as I planned to send in the CC rebate using the BB drive UPC  (don't know if it would have worked though).
3. cashier ring the item and it is $99.99 with $50 rebate instead of $179.99 with $60 rebate. So, the normal price was $50 after rebate.
4. I said screw the $89 with no rebate and give me the $99.99 with $50 rebate.
5. Then, I tried to get the $99.99 down to $79.99 with price match. No luck with that. They said nope since it was already lower than CC.
6. The best part: I had bought a 200GB for $299 and had the drive for 37 days. But the drive failed yesterday. So, I returned the drive today for my $299. Worked like a charm. They took the drive back and got me my refund. I am going for two 120GB 8mb instead of the one 200GB 8mb.

Summary: I am getting the drive for $50 after rebate (120GB with 8mb cache). Another one like that and I am set. :D

Tip1: Go to best buy and ignore the shelf price as it is lower at the register.
Tip2: Go online first and try to order for pick up at a local store (don't complete the order) to see which one has it in store instead of wasting your time driving from store to store.

BUST.a.CAP:

The 80GB 2MB cache drive is $59.99, or was at my local BB. The 8MB was $139.99 as you said.

The 120GB drive, although I didn't try to pricematch at CC, was $80 off the shelf at my local BB (Huntsville, AL). I bought two of the four they had, and although I will always wonder what happened to the other two babies, I will live knowing I got two for $173 after tax.

another thing how do we price match to something that is not advertised?

steal the bestbuy price display??? lol and bring it to circuit city??

Well, often the CircitCity is located close to the BestBuy ( 2 shopping centers in my area are like this). You could buy the item and march over to CC, show them the drive as proof of price for the match, then return the drive to BB.

I'm going over to check this deal out tomorrow and if possible do just that.

just picked up two of these from CC for 100 each after the 99.99 pricematch.. ^_^ free 120 gig drives

thanks alot :D :) :D :) :D

I Got something to work

A friend and I went in and asked about the drives, which were all out of course. The customer service gal called some number to make sure that we were not lying about the price, which was correct. We then kindly asked her if we could have a raincheck to secure the price she said sure and hooked us up. She said we should get a call on Wed. when they come in to remind us. Not too shabby!!

hard drives

Well, at the end of the day......i come home with 2 , 120 gig 7200 rpm 8 mb cache hard drives for 200 bucks. I am currently filling out the rebates for them. -200 bucks .... its nice to have stuff for free.......

I called 3 Best Buys and 1 of them confirmed the $79.99 price (no rebates involved I was told). This store said it had 1 WD 120GB 8MB HD in stock in the back. The others had none in stock.

I then called 2 Circuit City stores and asked to talk to a supervisor at the front desk. I told each of them I could get this HD for $79.99 at Best Buy w/o rebates, so could Circuit City pricematch and would I still get the $100 worth of rebates? Both told me if they pricematched I would not be allowed any rebates (even though they didn't say how they would enforce that). So, I decided to pass on the 1 drive at Best Buy because I just don't see a 8MB vs 2MB buffer being worth $40 more since I still have a WD 120GB 2MB drive from Office Max I haven't opened which was $120 before $80 mail in rebate.

Those of you who managed to get the drives from Circuit City for free after rebates are very lucky.

Yowza, just a little bit of information for ya. I purchased 2 WD 120gb drives from OM last week myself. And upon opening the box I found a little pink piece of paper telling me I just received the SE 8mb instead of the 2mb as listed on box. So you might want to open the box and double check and see if it is the same for you. You may already have the 8mb one in hand.

IDIOTS!

Dude, idiot! you don't ask them if you can stack rebates and pricematch, you have to BUY it first....get the rebates.... then come in and act like you paid 180 for it....!!!!!!

Thanks for the tips. I just opened my 2MB WD 120GB HD package and it was in fact the 8MB version, so it's cool that I'm getting the better hardware. Does this also mean I get the 3 year warranty instead of the 1 year warranty? In other words, does the warranty follow the HD unit itself or the retail box I bought?

The same Best Buy says they have the 8MB WD 120GB HD for $79.99 in stock. Now that I know my mistake at Circuit City, I'm debating if I should buy it first at normal price and then try to do a pricematch as suggested. Given a few other posts here it sounds like it's still not guaranteed success doing it that way as some managers figure in the rebate to the matched price. I'm also worried about the way rebates are done electronically thinking the rebate may not be honored if they see you pricematch later. Plus, can I use the Office Max $80 rebate and the Circuit City $80 rebate for the same HD at the same address? They have different submission addresses, but might be considered the same offer by WD.

Perhaps I should just be content with 1 HD and the easiest and surest course of action which is to keep my Office Max 8MB WD HD for $120 - $80 MIR. Buying a second drive or pricematching at CC seems to put the rebate in jeopardy.

Update: (read my previous post on page 3 for the start).

I now have 3 120GB 8mb HDs.

1. one from Best Buy for $99.99 + tax(tax ~= $9) - $50 mail-in rebate ~= $59 final
2. one from CompUSA pricematched for $99.99 + tax - $80 mail-in rebate ~= $29 final
3. one from Circuit City pricematched for $99.99 + tax - $80 - $20 mail-in rebates ~= $9 final

So, $97 after rebates and taxes for 3 120GB 8mb cache drives is very sweet. :D

The warranty on those drives goes by the serial number. They are 1 & 3 years from DATE OF MANUFACTURE, not date of purchase. So they use the numbers on the drive to keep track of it's warranty.

Ok, Now, I have 120gig 8meg hard drive for free and 27 dollars money back from Circuit City.

This is how i did.

First, I went to Circuit city and bought the hard drive.
Second, drove to Bestbuy and also bought 120gig hard drive for 80 bucks.
Third, went to Kinko and made a copy of Circuit city sales recipt.
Forth, went to Circuit city and showed the recipt of bestbuy and told them i'm deciding whichone i should return now.
They agreed to pricematch the product, and gave me 110 percent difference, including the tax, which comes out be 117 dollars return.
Finally, i went to Bestbuy and returned the hard drive i just bought.

So i think i paid 190 for the drive, minus 117, which is about 73 dollars including tax, and i have 100 dollars rebate coming on my way. so i guess i am making 27 dollars with a free drive!

It worked!

It prints at the register but only if the drive is $99.99 and not $79.99 as others are getting.
