Looking for free stuff in your local area... try Freecycle

These are just a couple of posts from my local group.... all from the same person I might add.

LOL I just think this is funny.

Ok, this is BAD, and I mean REALLY BADDDDD, but in that size clothing, I think she might want something more than a small freezer and folding table....

I just had to bump this post, I got 2 bikes from my freecycle group today, they looked BRAND NEW! I just have to clean up the tires, they came with matching helmets and a bicycle tire pump, these are new enough to give as Christmas presents! I was so excited when my hubby brought them home! Just wanted to fill yall in on my freecycle find!

Someone was giving away a 20in flat screen tv today from my group! I have a flat screen in my bedroom and would have loved to get this for my oldest son! The only thing they said it needed was a remote and it was only a year old! It's gone now! I checked my email too late! :verysad:

Might be too sketchy for me. Anyone have any experiences with this in the New York City group?

just an update:

tonight I recieved a free (never used) Petticoat for under my wedding dress, 80 new-in-box Thank You cards, and a free new-in-box Inflatable Kids Furniture Set (orig $40, on sale for $20 at Kohls)!

I've received thousands of dollars worth of stuff from Freecycle and I swear by it! Remember to always GIVE as you get things, its only right! :bigok: I just gave away my L-Shaped desk that was in our garage and some scrap wood (I was going to build a kitty condo but I dont have the time).

Freecycle is a group that was started to keep useable items out of landfills. I have gotten so many things from the listings. A new coffee pot, kitchen canisters, clothes, enough paint for several rooms, the list goes on. I have given too. This is a site that is worth joining.
Make sure you select getting each post delivered to your email so you don't miss out!

I have been a member of the Freecycle in my area and have been able to give a new home to several articles and appliances that I no longer use. Great program.

Never heard of this and I found a local group so I just signed up

I have heard really negative things about Freecycle. There was an article in the Chicago Tribune a few weeks back about how local Freecycle groups were defecting because of the way Deron Beal is running things. (I.E., he's a control freak.)

It sounds like a huge drama. No thanks. I'll stick to Craigslist.

A sofa set, a queen sized bed and an upright piano, among other things, found new homes on my local freecycle network just this past week. Not too long ago I was able to furnish someone with much needed medical equipment we no longer needed. It's a great find in our area.

Didn't someone recently get killed responding to a craigslist ad? The freecycle in our area runs fine.

Well its true, a woman was murdered after responding to a craigslist ad. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/10/30/national/main3431322.shtml?source=RSSattr=U.S._3431322

There are sick people all over the internet, i happen to love craigslist, and have never had a problem with anyone i've met or done business with from craigslist. In another point, a girl comitted suicide after talking to someone on myspace http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,312018,00.html should we not use myspace or craigslist anymore? I think everone needs to use common sense in who they are talking to, and what they do and not blame the websites.

I heard the same thing and because of Deron Beal my group decided to go on their own and changed the name to SC Earthcycle. It is run the same way as the freecycle groups and you can't even tell the difference. :bigok:
