DVD Shrink Software

A free software app forum would rock

I infinity the idea. :claps:

Just so you know

They have stopped supporting DVDshrink. While it works great for most everything, it chokes on the new copy protection (Arcos) used iin some newer movies like Resident Evil 2, Black book, and others. This was developed after they stopped updating DVDshrink. To get at these titles, you need DVD decrypter (another free proggy) to decrypt, then DVDshrink to shrink it if you wish. You can then use DVD decrypter to burn the DVD. A totally free solution to rip, shrink and burn. Look at dvdrhelp.com for tutorials on this and almost any other method for video and dvd issues.

Just to bring up a point....If you really want the absolute BEST video quality, DVD2One is absolute best (just do the google search on reviews comparing it to DVD Shrink in extensive tests). Sure, for most users, you won't tell the difference at all. BUT, if you ever want to compare uncompressed video done by DVD2One to that done by DVD Shrink on a large HDTV with progressive scan DVD player, there is a difference like night and day.

Once again, on most smaller and non-high def TV's no one will tell a difference whatsoever. Sure, DVD Shrink is great (it's my #2 program) and it's FREE, but for quality, DVD2one is unbeatable......so far. ;)

been using this program ever since i bought my DVD burner, works great, even better, it's free

yeah, i use dvd shrink and dvd decryptor, a lot of the cds I need to clone a copy have some stupid copyright on them tha make my burning stop after 3% of the initial burn.

does anyeone else have a better idea?

For those really tough DvD s with the new copyright protection like Resident Evil 2 and Shwn of the Dead the best is AnyDVD by Slysoft. They have a trial version good for a set amount of days(14 I think). Run Anydvd and it tells you exactly the type of protection on the dvd and circumvents it. Then you can burn with DVD shrink. At least thats what people tell me. ;)

Dvd Decrypter should help you out in this case.... However, I found that if you get errors while using shrink, you can chose the "re-author" mode and just select the main title (movie) and no intros, special features, etc... This works for me on about 50% of the movies that i get the errors on after 3%.

give it a shot. hope it works out.

awesome proggie but sometimes the dvd's I rip will freeze... at least with memorex media...on every dvd player I have tried it on.

hmmmm. i use ridata dvdr's and havent had that problem yet! And there is always a good deal somewhere for a pack of 100 at like 30.00 after rebate!

I never compressed my DVDs and I've burn over 300+. There is no loss of quailty! I can't tell the difference....Even after I burned StarGate and 24.

The newest version of DVD decryptor now gets around these errors. I think it'll tell you it's inserting 'dummy files' when you hit the new copy protection.

ya i dont know whats up with it cause the program is real simple to use. I should probably try to rip something else and play it. It messed up during the Penn and Teller BS dvds, I dont think it is the media because it has never messed up when used for any other purpose than burning dvd shrink iso's

Its worked great for me. I always use dvd decrypter to burn. :bigok:

I have given some friends some dvds i have burnt (durabrand or sony), and they wont play all the way thru on there dvd players (emerson brand), but play perfectly fine on my dvp 642, PS 2, and other brand players. So im not sure what the deal is with the emerson brand dvd players. They say it locks up around 20 min. into the movie.

I keep tellin em to get the dvp 642 now that its 54 bucks at wal-mart. ;)

I didn't have a problem with Shaun of the Dead when i "made a back-up" earlier this year. As a matter of fact, DVDshrink went through all the steps and even burned on my Nero prog and the disc played back perfectly on my 4 year old Toshiba home dvd player. Didn't even know there was supposed to be a problem with ShaunOTDead copyright protection until i read it a few minutes ago.

Same goes for me. When I backed up my Sean of the Dead, seemed to go no problem. Try using DVD Decrypter to make an image of the DVD, DVD Shrink to shrink and burn the image.
