Black Friday Sale 2003 - Public Discussion

I used to work at best buy and I can say with the greatest confidence

May they ALL burn in hell!!!

There are only very few good employees who really care about the people they talk to. Sorry about your experience.

On the up side I just about everything that I wanted and got a free lava lamp before a guy had a chance to get his. He is the same guy that took everything away from me last year at Office Max =). Some times revenge feels good.

I'm sorry about the Target ads everyone :(

I didn't do as well as I wanted to either.
5:30 : Went to Officemax, but they were opening at 7am,
5:50 : dashed to Staples, grabbed every Free item,
6:10 : Friend goes to ToysRus to grab DVDs
6:10 : went to Circuit City, and it was PACKED. Could not get out of the store for a hour. I was 2nd in line of the cash register for a good 30 minutes, the guy took his time. :(
7:15 : dashed back to Officemax, but the free memory, free USB stick was gone, but grabbed everything else that was free.
8:00 : eating break at Noahs Bagels
8:00 : friend goes to Radio Shack to grab DVD player
8-10 : Walking around a mall with Sears and other clothing stores. Nothing really got my attention. This was a waste of time.
10:30 : Called OfficeDepot to see if they had some things in stock, as soon as I heard a no, I slept.

It was fun, but I wish I got more than this. :p

i remember last year someone posted photos of what they got.

i got to best buy at 12:30 am and got all i wanted and left best buy at 6:36 woo hoo! the first guy in line started waiting at 3 pm!! too bad he didnt get in first because some ass just cutted and walked in and the stupid best buy staff didnt do anything!

Kohl's Sucks

Went to Kohl's Department Store, wanting to take advantage of their $10 reward for each $50 purchase.

Well, their "reward" turns out to be a paper coupon that can only be used Nov. 30 thru Dec 6, 2003, or it is worthless.

Their "reward" can only be used one per purchase. I bought $200 worth of items and received four "rewards," so now I have to go through their understaffed checkouts four times with four different items.

Their "reward" can only be used in a store, not online.

No explanation of the terms and conditions appears on the in-store promotions. You only find out there are *any* terms and conditions after you've gone through their checkout lanes.

The idiots at Kohl's who designed this promotion violated the first rule of a promotion: if you're going to give something away, just give it away. Don't put so many terms and conditions on a "reward" that it becomes burdensome to take advantage of it. My "reward" will be knowing that I will be treated better elsewhere.

So... I'll buy 4 items, use the Kohl's "rewards," and then return the items for full credit. Sorry, Kohl's, but you're not worth the time.

I'm sorry to hear of you guys with bad sales clerks and not getting whatcha came for.. :(

I got my ass up and at BB @ 3:30am, a friend hitup CC @ same time. People around me in line were real nice, sales clerks were all really nice, and ppl around me in checkout line were nice..

To point out how nice the sales ppl were, I dashed for my bigger items first, then went for DVD's, a really nice sales lady asked what I was looking for and then said to wait a sec, I waited and she returned with 4 of the things on my list! Then pointed me directly to where the remaining items were! This is the best service I've ever seen at BB! My friend had the same thing happen at CC with the memory cards that were on sale..

I also asked the checkout ppl what time they got to work, all of them replied 5am. I said, "Lucky you!"... lol

For some statistics, BB line started at 12midnight, CC line started with friend at around 3:30.. I saw GG and CompUSA lines already started as I drove to BB. What anyone could want from CompUSA this year is beyond me...

Most greedy item this year was the $20 DVD players, ppl had stacks of these.. Also the store had 150 of the $500 laptops, I don't think I saw anyone take more then 2 papers to get them tho.

Later in the day (10am?) I drove to another BB, man, that place was horrid! Lines everywhere and nobody was nice.

So I write this after getting 20hrs recovery sleep... :D

I'll see ya'll next year! In the meantime, Spoofee rocks!

the best buy crew was really cool. and when i was searching for some dvds a nice bb lady came and helped. the only downfall was the crazy shoppers  but i love best buy and the staff they rock! :D cant wait till next year!

Here is what happened to me.
It's my first BLACK FRIDAY experience.
i went to BEST BUY, there is no place to park. i got there at 6 exactly
i went inside, the STORE WAS FULL line's all over. about 100ppl in line. the line started from register, and went around the store back to the register.
i head people were there since 12am. INSANE
i went grapped HARD DRIVE, MADDEN 2004 shopped for good 20minut staff were real nice. then i went to line
i was like oh hell no i aint waiting for an hour. i left everything there and walked out.
went to office max. i grapped everything was free.
and lucky me they had everytihng except the USB HUB.
then went home. and went to work at home depot.
LOL i got to work at 10am, i heard people were also waiting at the door in morning just to get those 19" TV's with dvd and vcr for $179

first time too

Most of what I wanted was at Office Max (especially the decent free after rebate deals). The experience turned out to be pretty good. You know what though, they opened the doors before 7 am, the time they had posted they will be open. That suprised/kinda pissed me off, because I was next door at Sears checking that place out. So come 6:45 am I thought I'd walk over to Office Max, people were already inside hustling and bustling. I'm like sh*t, I'm late!

The staff at Office Max was good though, considering how busy they got. They worked with the customers. For example, when I asked about the iConcepts Optical Mouse that wasn't on display, but a USB Scroller Mouse was on display misleadingly (also free after rebate), they didn't argue with the customer trying to convince/lie/be lazy that the one on display was the one. They just realize they hadn't brought it out yet, and when they finally brought it out they were handing it to customers, who were already in line.

I was definitely very suprised at how many people were there. I thought man, I must be the only loser/geek willing to wake up/do an all nighter to make it at opening moment. However, I met people I haven't seen in a long time and at around 7:30 am several registers had lines. That made me feel better.

Luckly though, I didn't experience any pre-opening lines at Office Max. I can't believe people actually wait from 12am. Though, I suppose if you want something really bad your willing to do anything.

I was also suprised that customers were generally in a nice in-the-moment-mood. They were directing one another to find stuff. No body was really b1tch1ng about the long line and having to wait a while. Just an in general let's get this over and do what we have to do next.

So I went to sears afterwards, and they sold out the dvd player I wanted, that sucked.

I too was suprised CompUSA didn't have as many good deals this year as last year (I still have the list).

Then I went home, slept for about 4 hours, and went to work.

Now, I must recheck these rebates, forms, and return anything that isn't on the up and up.

It was fun! I'll do it again next year, and now at least I have experience. Hopefully, my work schedule will work out too.

Thanks Spoofee for making me a junkie.

I went drinking the night before. And on BF i woke up at 11. I am thoroughly annoyed that i missed out on all the Best Buy stuff, and Office Max. By the time i arrived at 12 to those stores in my area, it was completely desolate of anything worthwhile. I learned my mistake i guess.

The beer was free, i guess thats a deal.

this was my first black friday too...i had fun. although, i didn't sleep at all...lol...i got like a total of 50 rebates...scan them and need to send them now...amazing eh? lol well here's my story...

i didn't sleep at all...got to my local BB store with my cousin and friend at 4:30...there were ppl in line already...damn, we're like around the 15th or so ppl in line. here's wat we got at BB:
1. 3 toshiba laptop
2. 3 dual dvd burner
3. 2 120 maxtor hd
4. 2 radeon 9600 128mb
5. 1 DI-514 Wireless router
6. Some other stuff...dont' remember
the line was packed in getting the laptop...but we manage to get out at 7:45...close to 8. we bounced to OM then...it was pretty kewl. they had almost all of the free items except for the jump drives which i really want...oh well... after tat was CC...they don't have anything much...just got some battery and camera bag, and the belkin wireless router. i wanted the lava lamp though...lit was out...sigh. next was staples...just got the 80gb hd, was abt to get the shedder..tat was out too. next was MicroCenter...nothing really there...except got some ram...mad cheap. $5 for the 256mb...plus $25 rebate...i guess there was an error or something. but it all good. total spending is like around $5000, which around $2000 should be rebate and sell the rest for profit. hehehehe

best of luck with those rebates..... best buy is a b*tch with their rebates.... if they get any notion that you are doing multiple rebates.... they will void all of them..... i learned the hard way last year. I bought 3 dvd players had them sent to 3 different people (on three different receipts) and they voided all three. I don't know how they knew.... but they did.

I spent $700 on 1 of each of the hottest deals (DVD dual, hard drive, simpsons seasons, some other stuff) and $100 at Office MAx for everything free after rebate.

did you purchase them on credit card? if so, were they all under your name card? :-) well, i use my credit card, my friend and my cousin uses cash, so i can't find any way they can find out abt it. if they do, i'll sue their ass. lol

hehehe, good news...my laptop is going strong on ebay...

Black Friday newbie

This was my first Black Friday as well. Best thing I did was go to Wal-mart on BF. Some of you may already know this, but Wal-mart will price match to competitor's ads. Plus, you can do the whole layaway thing, so you don't have to pay for it all at once. Got almost everything I needed (DVD player, DVDs, PC games) in one place, didn't pay for it all at once, and was home before 9 AM!

Moral of the story: Get all competitor's ads, go to Wal-mart, and have fun!

I did not think that Wal-Mart would match ads for 6 hour BF sale pricing, but what do I know.
