Does anyone know the answer to the warranty question I asked earlier? That is, for those who can find the item on the web page, is the "1 year warranty" listed for this HD a typo or are there 1 year and 3 year warranty versions with different product codes?

Well I know that almost every HD manufacture has changed there standard warranty on IDE drives to 1 year instead of 3. It could be that the 3 year warranty drives were the ones they had left. All of the new drives are now 1 year warranty ones.

Finally understand wat was going on...last night, OfficeMax.com was updating it's site, there's still probably some bug or something. sometime it showed up, sometime it didn't. but right after they finish updating the site, the item was shown...when i just checked now, it's completely gone...the direct link to the item says something like item is currently unavailable. so those of you who were lucky enuf to check last night, you probably order it...

I think it was a typo, or, office max gives you a 1 year warranty on the drive. Western digital will give you 3 years for the special edition drive, and 1 year for their non special edition drives... i think they may give you a better warranty for their high end scsi drives.

I thought all 8 MB WD HDs were considered "special edition drives" with a 3 year warranty. Are people saying that WD is phasing out the special edition (3 year warranty) drives and going with only 1 year warranty models? By the way, does WD still make HDs with 2 MB buffers or is 8 MB now standard?

All I know is the drive I got in-store says 3 year warranty on the package, so it must've been an older package. The product on the web page said 8 MB buffer with only a 1 year warranty. These discrepancies are making me wonder if the rebates were not meant to be on the 8 MB buffer 3-year warranty HD I got but only on the 8 MB buffer 1-year warranty version available (intermittently) online?

I'm definitely going to call the rebate company and hope they can clarify it for me.

i think it's 3 years...it says on the box...also, my friend earlier order one of the same kind and his warranty is 3 years. they still make 2mb buffer, i believe anything 60 or below is all 2mb...but dont' quote me for it...^_^

The rebate company only had info on the $50 rebate (09-59640). I was told my UPC was valid for that rebate, but then I realized the offer details say send the capacity label instead of the UPC code. In this new packaging, the capacity label only says "Special Edition 120 Gigabytes". I guess that is sufficient now?

The $20 rebate (03-59962) says send the UPC bar code and not the capacity label. I generally send the whole UPC sticker including the serial number.

The details on the main Spoofee page say send the original UPC for the $50 rebate and a copy of the UPC for the $20 rebate. That does not match the rebate details, so I assume that was an error?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but I want to make sure I get these rebates right since they have changed the packaging and offer requirements since the last time I did this.

The rebate rep said the fact I bought the same hard drive 3 months ago does not matter as long as the rebate offers have different codes (03-xxxxx). I guess that means you could buy several of these per year if you wanted to.
