I posted a commerical he did on my blog. Link

Seeing that picture made me tear up. And to think that the stingray got him right in the heart.

We are deeply saddened by the news of Steve's death also. My husband and I loved watching him do the "crazy" things he did. We admired him. We wish his family the best!!!!!

Well, from another perspective & my work with rays, it appears that he was trying to ride it. They do that by holding on to the top of the ray with both hands, this position puts the barb above the rib cage.

That's probably why we won't get to see that video.

How do you hold onto something so slippery and slimey? The last time I touched a stingray (or a bunch of stingrays), they felt like a big wet plastic bag.

 Big Daddy....you have how many kids?????

Clubby....you tell him...LOL....they liked your siphoning instructions before, they'll enjoy this.....

of course i know how to handle a stingray...

you need to approach it slowly and lower yourself to its eye level. assure it you aren't there to harm it, only to play with it a little. reach your hand out carefully and grab it with a firm, but gentle, grasp. if it starts to slide out of your hand, use the other hand to keep control over it. when it starts to move, keep that firm but gentle hold on it, but allow your hands to move along with it.

"How do you hold onto something so slippery and slimey?"

You're approaching it on it's back & grab it's shoulders. Easy to do. Probably illegal too.

We have bat rays you can touch at the Monterey Bay aquarium.
