Staples HP P4 1.7GHZ notebook for $499 AR

Got mine . . .

Ordered 12/23 and they shipped 01/08, got it 01/09 all the way from Taiwan! Bumped the RAM to 256 and upped the drive to DVDROM. Very nice machine . . . hard to give it up for auction, but I need the cash. :-(

Hope you get yours soon!

Glad to see somebody got it -- keep us posted on what you score at auction.:thumb:

My brother in law got an e-mail saying they were about to ship so called to cancel his today. They told him they would take off $100 if he did not cancel. Obviously, he decided not to cancel.

Went for $849 (opening bid) at a non-eBay site, but it's been a couple days and haven't heard from the winning bidder. If that craps out I'll go to eBay where I should be able to get that much (fingers crossed), but their damn fees are so high. Hopefully, the XP Pro is a strong selling point.

After 1 each Staples and HP rebate, my net was $706. If the second HP rebate comes through -- whoo- hooo!

Just got a call -- won't ship until 1/24, but gave me a $100 additional credit :D , and promised rebates will still be valid.

That means this darn machine is for just $399 with a free XP upgrade. Gosh you lucky b**stards........

Could anyone tell me about the spec. of the ze4000 laptop?
I forgot printing the spec.
The link by ShreeKarthik is not available anymore.
As long as I remember, there is a free additional battery.
Am I wrong? Please let me know. Thanks a lot in advance..

SPECS . . .

On this particular model, the base had a P4M-1.7 CPU, 128MB RAM, 20GB, 14" TFT, CDROM, WinXP Pro (nice touch), modem, LAN, Firewire, USB. WordPerfect apps. Various upgardes were possible. I bumped mine up to a DVD-ROM and 256. Pretty nice machine.

Worth a shot! I purchased mine before 12/230, so no go. For someone who bought it between 12/30 and 1/6, there are three rebates that cover it. Whether or not you'll get them all is another story. Still waiting to hear on the two I sent in for this laptop.

My HP Lap came with about a 3"x5"hole cut out of the outer box, exposing the inner box.
I asume that is where the UPC/Barcode was. My Freind had the same hole in his outer box. I contacted Staples & HP they told me to note that, and send in copys of all the barcodes from the outer & inner boxs I had.
It does not have the 12 digit "proof of purchase lable" on any of the boxes

Did anyone else have a hole in there outer boxes ??

The outer box doesn't have any UPC/Barcode in mine.
IT has a 3"x5" hole cut. I can see some barcodes in inner box thru the hole. The bar codes in the inner box doesn't have the 12 digit UPC bar code. It has serial numbers and some other bar codes. If anyone has the 12 digit UPC code, please post it here.
Thanks.

The hole in the outer box appears to be intentional, so they can scan the label on the inner box. The outer box appears to be just for extra shipping protection. If BTO, the label on the inner box has no UPC since it's not a standard retail product. Just cut out the label with all the barcodes on it and send that in w/ rebates.

Memory

They must have upgraded mine to a ZE4100 for some reason. I got the DVD / CDRW opt.

This is an AWSOME laptop.
The $2 MouseMan Traveler deal is a must.

HP rebates will take copys with a note.

Too bad its not USB II. ( any upgrades around?)

Are there any cheap 256MB, 200-pin SODIMM's around ???

Want to install windows 2K

I want to install windows 2k into this labtop instead of XP.

Has anyone done it?

Any problem or concern?

I have also tried to install win2000 pro, but it did not work. I partitioned my hard disk to 3 parts and found that there is a small another partion of 25Mb. Probably this partition is what prevents the installation. So i droped the plan for installing win2000 and instead decided on buying another 256MB memory. This 128 MB is too low. It always show message that i'm running low on virtual memory. After the upgrade i expect considerable increase in the performance. I think if you do a full format of your harddisk you can install win2000. But XP pro is really cool....only thing is that its resource hungry....Happy computing!!!!

Rebates on ZE4000 from HP

Hi,
I have purchased ZE 4000 laptop from staples on 12/28/2002 by knew the deal from this site.
I got $200 staples instant rebate, $100 staples mailin rebate and $100
for maximize savings from HP.
But i did not get $100 for celebrate savings. Actually i have send original barcode to celebrate savings and xerox copy to maximize savings.
I have given call to hp sutomer service, they said that they are offering one rebate for one product.
Does any body get two reabtes from HP?

thanks

Nope, just one. I pretty much expected that, despite the wording on the rebate forms that they could be combined with other HP offers.

yes, the wording on rebate form is "offer combinable with other offers".
Regarding that i spoke with customer service representatives, they said other offers means reabte of floppy disk or rebate or other accessories.
They are strongly arguing with me that one rebate for one laptop.

So any idea to get other rebate from them?

thanks for your response

Spoke With Corporate Official at HP and.......

....after explaining my situation (HP honored my Max. Savings rebate but refused the Celebrate rebate after I explained the wording of their rebate forms would equally allow for interpretation that both rebates are valid; in fact that is the prevailing understanding, not just by me but many, many buyers of their product) to the HP executive, he asked that I send to him copies of my Celebrate the Savings rebate submission paperwork and he'll see what he can do by submitting for rebate authorization himself.

He now has my paperwork & my fingers are crossed. Longshot that he may find out the scope of this problem and make mention of it with a few others.......
