Silly computer question

Yowza!!

1. Mostly....2/3 isn't bad.

2. That's what I just discovered. I had a friend tell me that and he laughed so hard at me when I told him my problem. How was I to know?

3. http://www.spoofee.com/forums/showpost.php?p=227332&postcount=1

4. Yes and yes

5. There is a light on the main speaker...the one w/ the volume knob.

6. Yup, just a new monitor.

Thanks for all your help everyone!!

what does 2/3 fixed mean??? is that some michigan thing? is there sound?

ok, this new monitor you bought has speakers. but you have to figure out why there is no sound to your old speakers. in the lower right corner of your computer desktop, there is an icon of a speaker (do you know about that?) click on it and adjust the volume up. also, turn up the volume with the knob on your old speakers. play a song on your computer that plays continuously. any sound?

if not, go to the back of your computer and pull the plug out of the back. touch the metal part of the plug you just pulled out. any sound?

>>if so, try plugging it into each of the 3 sockets that should be right next to one another, usually the green socket is the correct socket.

>>if no sound, plug that cord into the back of the new monitor and turn up the volume on the monitor.

also, your old speakers; the speaker that has the knob and the light on it, look on the back side of this speaker. are all the plugs in the back of this speaker plugged in?

Well what I meant was that there was 2 out of the 3 speakers working, but I discovered there are 5 speakers. I also have a sub woofer. May sound funny , but I play music off the puter when I am cleaning house and such. So the main speaker w/ the light and knob has a cord on it w/ yellow, black and green plugs which is plugged into a small box which has two plugs (red and white) coming from that. The end of that is not colored so I am not entirely sure where that was supposed to go. I had it plugged into my tower.
Now there is only music coming from the main speaker, so I dunno.

Did you try looking online for a manual for the speakers, to tell you what hole to plug them into?

Jamun, I can't quite tell if you are being a smartass or not. :convinced:

this 5 speaker system came with your old computer or is it new along with your new monitor?

the main speaker is the only one making sound? you say there are 5 speakers, so only 1 of 5 speakers is working? how does that add up to 2 of 3 speakers working?

so the main speaker has cords that are not detachable from the back of the main speaker, right? and they are colored yellow, green and black. These colored plugs are all plugged into this black box? or somewhere else? when you use the word plug, are you using it interchangeably with the word socket? with the the white and red plugs, do you mean sockets? where is the no-color-plug coming from and is it plugged to anything?

do you have the model of the speaker system? maybe you can get a manual online and look at the set up like jamun suggested. just google your model number and the word "manual"

I italicized "was" because I was mistaken...I didn't realize I had 5 speakers. I guess instead of saying plugs....it should be jacks?

I hope this helps explain it a little better. The end w/ the green, black and yellow "jacks" is directly connected to the speaker. The other end is some sort of an adapter? I have that end plugged into the tower.

how is the other speaker and the subwoofer connected?

the plug in the tower, did you try alternating the sockets it's plugged into on the back of the tower?

There is a speaker w/ a white connection and one w/ a red connection and they are plugged into the sub woofer accordingly.
I've tried a few combinations, but obviously not them all.

are any of these speakers with the red or white plugs and the subwoofer connected to the main speaker with the knob and light?

Yes the red and white ones that are not connected to the black box are both plugged into the sub woofer.

are any of these speakers connected to the main speaker with the knob and light?

umm no they are hooked up to the sub woofer and that is hooked up to the main speaker. Something tells me there is my problem.

1. check the connection between the main speaker and the subwoofer, make sure they are plugged in tightly.

2. make sure the subwoofer is on. is there a light on it? is there a power button on it?

3. does the subwoofer have its own electrical plug?

The subwoofer does not have a switch or light and yes it has it's own electrical plug. When I take the plug or jack from 3/2 connector and touch it to the red hole on the subwoofer it makes a thumping sound. Don't know if that is helpful...just thought I would throw that in. lol

you used the wrong form of its... it's is used to replace "it is" or "it has", whereas its is a possessive pronoun (similar to his or hers, neither of which use an apostrophe)... don't know if that is helpful... just thought i would throw that in ;) :p

Aren't you on break, teach? ;)
