Russian MP3 music download sites discussion

I am sure it will be back up. It has gone down before, possibly to update site. ;)

From the site:

ATTENTION please! Our websites and downloading will be unavailable within 2-3 hours.
Shutdown is planned at 09:15 GMT (12:15 Moscow Time) till 11:30 GMT (14:30 Moscow Time).

Here is another great site: http://mp3.rin.ru/eng
By the way I am Russian guy and know everything about mp3s and downloads so ask me anything about mp3.

This is insane. LOL

Even better know, all songs just 5 cents. You can get whole CD's for 50 cents. I have been using this since it was first posted here and have never had a problem.

You can use Paypal, or CC to deposit $$ into you account.

I just signed up with AllofMP3 tonight and it has been fantastic, I'm really building my collection. I think I'm on my third album, and I've spent about $2.50. Everything is basically under a buck. This is great for filling my Dell DJ 15GB.

I'm normally as cheap as they come when it comes to paying for music, but I don't mind it when it's as simple and easy as this, and the quality is fantastic, I'm downloading everything at 192 MP3. My only real complaint is the speed, most songs are coming in at 50-60KB/sec, a little slow on my cable connection. No complaints though, paying was simple and easy and I was downloading in about 5 minutes.

I got tired of going at only 50-60kb so I decided to switch to Usenet. Can get a song in about 8 seconds on my 3mb connection. So far its been cheaper with NewsHosting service for the past 3 months than using AllofMP3. Spent $45 for 2336 songs.

yea but allofmp3 is legal but the stuff on newsgroups isnt necessarily legal.

I think you mean to say that allofmp3 isn't necessarily legal, but the stuff on newsgroups is all out theft. ;)

I signed up at allofmp3, and they have a superior selection of music, especially as far as prog rock is concerned. But Paypal there has been offline for over a week now, and I won't be giving them my credit card info.

If you're going to use Usenet, you might as well just use P2P or BitTorrent and not have to pay Usenet fees. The thing about AllofMP3 is that it's a direct download service that's semi-legal (not that I really care if it's legal or not), but most of all, they have a great selection and it's really cheap, and I find it to be really reliable.

Jimmy Higgins, I used the AllofMP3 credit card processing system (it's some Russian company or something), and it went through fine. It translated my payment to Russian currency and instantly, when I went back to AllofMP3, the funds were in there. The charges are correct on my card and everything looks good, so I can tell you that giving them your credit card isn't terrible, it worked out for me.

Bittorrent for me is still slow. I can't stand downloading at anything slower than 300kb. I like using Usenet because the variety of the stuff that I can get. I've gotten more than 700gb of stuff this summer. I like getting HDTV stuff on there which is normally 10-15gb. Any other P2P client would take much longer than Usenet. Bittorrent would take 4 or 5 days and Usenet takes me about 8 hours.

I just tried to get into this website, and it's no longer there. Anyone else see this?

I was able to access the site earlier, it worked just fine. Maybe it is just down for maintenance. It should be up later, if not by tomorrow I hope :hmm:

For anyone curious about the usenet situation:
Advantages over P2P:

Don't have to worry about viruses unless you're a moron and download and execute a naked EXE, SCR, or other such file that can carry a virus. (MP3s, MPGs, and the vast majority of filetypes cannot contain viruses, they do not include any executable code)

Don't have to worry about getting mislabeled files. (in theory it is possible but I've been using usenet for years and only can recall 1 incident which was a fairly obvious large-scale prank (claimed to be a game that wasn't due out for months))

SPEED - you download however fast your connection goes. You might get 10KB/sec on Kazaa if you're lucky if you're not downloading something extremely popular, on Usenet my transfer rate never drops below my cap of 750KB/sec (using Newshostings unlimited account (14.95/mo)).

Anonymity - you won't be being scanned by the RIAA like you are being when you use Kazaa and other P2P networks, because it's not P2P and you're not making dozens of connections to other people, you're not sharing anything, you're not uploading anything.

Real releases - On P2P networks people have to do stupid stuff like take a release from a group that is 20 files and repack it into their own zip or rar file. On Usenet you will get the files as they were meant to exist with either PAR or SFV files which allow you to check their integrity to be sure the files are not damaged in any way.

Disadvantages over P2P:

If you want good service, it will not be free.

If something you want hasn't been posted recently, it won't be there. However, the sheer volume of usenet makes this unlikely.

I'd like to check out these Russian sites, but I don't know... I could see the RIAA getting a list of their customers and a list of their downloads and going to town. I'm not sure how that would shake out in the courts. Is it your responsibility or the responsibility of the seller to make sure the proper royalties are paid? Hmmm....

Unless I'm seeing things, downloads are $0.10 each now....funny how that somehow seems like a BAD deal. :D Guess I've been spoiled.

no they are not $.10 each, only the new songs are $.10 the older ones are $.05, but it does seem to be increasing their prices, it may be time to switch to one of the other ones. Has anyone used All of MP3? How much is that one? I have seen they pretty much have the same library (i.e. missing the same songs for the most part).

The ClubMP3 has a pretty good message board at http://www.mp3talks.com where they talk about the site and stuff.

Go back and check, all songs are now $.10 even the old ones. I guess some songs are even going for $.15 now.

Allofmp3.com is pretty good also, I have used it in the past. The new place I posted above is my choice right now. ;)

ALLofMP3, though no longer using Paypal, does have albums that are free. I was wondering if anyone has found any others.

The bands with free albums that I've found are King Crimson and Brian Eno, each with one free album.

Anyone find any other groups with free downloads at ALLofMP3?
