Party lines (the telephone service kind) and listening for "your ring"

There are still some left in existence, although I don't think they ring in everyone's home anymore....only if it's for you.

We can remember like 10 numbers in our head but now that we have cell phones, we only know 2 numbers from the top of our head.

Ice boxes???? That was before the Pope was an alter boy. Is anybody here that old? :worry: I guess they could have had them in rural areas? We used to have an "ice house" in the town I was raised where they would store lake ice for the summer, during the winter, but it was out of use by the 50's.

How about school desk ink wells? Ink was before my time but the wells were still there.
We used to use Schafer pens with ink cartridges (high tech) and had blotting paper and "ink eradicator" which was a water and bleach solution is an eye dropper bottle. Ball point pens were the "up and coming" thing.

This morning the magazine rack at my gym had an issue from way back in December 2007. They were talking about Rudy Giuliani as the front-runner for the Republicans. Remember that?

I remember the no indoor plumbing or indoor heat but lol that was in the early 1960's and we were the only people I knew without those. Comes from living in the mountains. Tv came quite a while after obviously none at that time.

I remember when visiting my Aunts farm we had to go out to the pump to fetch a pail of water for everything.

Yup, at my great grandmother's, not only no running water (outside manual pump), a huge wood stove in the livingroom to heat the house (no duct work) but the kitchen stove was wood as well! No Mr. Coffee machines then, you had to make a wood fire in the kitchen stove to heat the water for the perculator........:sus:

Perculator??? My grandmother used to dump ground and a couple broken up raw eggs in a porcelain cowboy type coffee pot. Brought it to a boil, turned it off and it cooled. The grounds and egg shell floated to the top and then she strained the liquid into another pot and heated it up for drinking. I was too little to appreciate it but was told it was the best coffee anywhere (don't tell Starbucks;) )

Gee Jerry, that sounds delicious! :05:
