(phishing scam?) Free - 1GB of Web Space - AtGig .com

This was posted a bunch of other places on the net today, I bet they just got swamped with requests...

They're scouring the net for some rebate coupons to get more harddrives LOL

Someone pls post here when they get a proper site operational. I signed up for a FREE account w/ 1&1 Hosting a while back, but it was so userfriendly that I couldn't figure it out. JUST GIVE ME FTP ACCESS DAMN YOU ALL!!!!!! sorry.

1&1 = PURE EVIL!!! I had one of their free accounts for a while and it was a nightmare. No tech support whatsoever when the servers crashed and left me without e-mail for three days.

Back to the subject at hand, the only thing that concerns me about AtGig is security. This appears to be a small company running a fairly rudimentary hosting service. Who's to say they won't up and vanish--with all our files--in a month or two?

oh nothing except I have no idea how to do anything. I couldn't find where to manage SQL databases (although they were provided), couldn't figure out how to ftp crap up to it, couldn't do anything!!!! I have a site up and running using e107 and cpanel for control, like to think I'm averagely profficient.. and yet I couldn't do a damn thing. I still have it because its even complicated to cancel it!

I'm sure it works fine..... I just prefer a minimal interface. just give me a spot on a server...I'll do the rest.

well, who knows. it's free though. and it works for the moment. so might as well make the most of it while it's here.

I believe you're given only 1 mySQL database on free 1&1 account. You setup the database account with the control panel, and use SSH to setup your database. And I use FTP with no problem. If you don't use it, do you mind if you give it to me? :)

lol. guess it was a phishing scam. because the sites gone now.

that's possible.

yikes, if it was, i got suckered into it too. although there are ways to tell if a deal is legit or not, sometimes it can be difficult to tell or be absolutely sure.

my apologies to anyone who signed up for this.

if it is true, then some precautions to take are:

everyone who signed up for this, watch out for disappearing/ Forwarded mails.

if any mail is missing you better contact your post office and make sure no one has put a forwarding request for your address.

if any CC bill is missing, call and make sure no one has overtaken or tried to overtake your accounts.

Does anyone remember what information was asked for during the sign-up for the free atgig site? I'm trying to remember what information I actually divulged to those bastards. Thanks.

From: "[email protected]" <AtGig.com@>
Subject: AtGig PHP and News-do not reply

Hey there AtGig Users!

We'd like to thank all of you for your kind support and briefly make a few quick announcements!

Firstly, we have added support for midi files, as well as many other file types. Most of the initial bugs have been beta tested away, and we want to thank all of you for the help.

We also plan to implement PHP sometime in the next week depending on server tests. SQL and CGI are close to release as well. If you're interested in BETA TESTING any of these servers, we will be sending more random invites to users signed up at the Forums on http://atgig.com/forums

More services are planned, and we thank those of you who have been helping us out, did you know we offer $24 to users interested in opening a brokerage account? You can do so for only $100 with an insured stock broker (like etrade) and have your $24 and $100 available to withdraw often in less than 24 hours. Please email [email protected] if interested.

We'd also like to let you all know that the AtGig Paid Hosting page located at http://www.atgig.com/paid.htm is now active for purchases. Anyone wishing to upgrade to a new and fast server with PHP SQL, and PLESK for only $8.95 is invited to take a look.

And, sometime in the next two days a new service will be unveiled at ATGIG.com. It'll be a surprise.

Thanks again for the support.
