Odd comments that have nothing to do with anything else...

I accidentally left my house phone outside and forgot it was outside til 10 minutes ago......once it started pouring. It's funny how my brain works. :convinced::o

Wait a minute, you used the words 'my brain' and 'works' in the same sentence.

That's just not right.

Can we say hypocrite? If it were a white person that had said the same thing, Jackson would have been on that individual faster than maggots on #2. Thankfully, Jackson is losing his relevance as the days go on.

You mean like Imus? It was Jackson that blew that all out of proportion.

I personally think ethnic slurs are best left to bigots.

Volumes have been written on whether it is or isn't okay to use the so-called "n-word" if the person using it is black. I doubt that issue is going to be resolved any time soon. It's true that a word is just a word. But, since a large number of black people are offended by its use (given its painful and ugly history), I never use it. Period. I have never actually come across a situation in my life where I have *needed* to use such a word. :convinced:

I don't personally see the appeal of Rev. Jackson, and don't find his use of the "n-word" or his crass comments about Senator Obama appealing.

But that doesn't excuse the fact that Imus's comments were also crass and offensive. Those girls at Rutgers seem to be high-achieving, remarkable young women who didn't deserve his asinine, entirely racially motivated comments about them.

I'm not defending any of these clowns (oops, I just offended clowns).
It's just one of those "fair for the Honkey, fair for the N (umbskull) situations.

Now, everyone take a deep breath, and realize that I'm trying to be funny and serious at the same time.

Excuse my ignorance, 3 out of what?

Oh, insult clowns all you want. ;) I think they're creepy. LOL

As for the double standards, I think they're pretty common when it comes to these things. A Pole might find a Polish joke told by another Polish person funny but take offense at an Italian saying the same thing. Within "our" group, we assume we know the intent of the speaker but when an "outsider" says it, the intent might be more suspect.

I'm dealing with something similar closer to home. I tell my toddler he is being "so silly!" when he's goofing around and find it affectionate and cute, but find it slightly grating when our nanny calls him silly. Double standards? Yes. Unusual? I doubt it.

What kind of freaky mascara wand is this?!! Something new from Givenchy, just saw it on Sephora.
