LOL Ok, you caught me making a mistake. You know how much coffee stresses me out!

Are you coming down for butter RUM coffee tomorrow morning?

i took the GRE this morning. i'm incredibly surprised. i think i'm relatively literate, but i only scored 500 on the verbal portion. however, on the quantitative, i scored 700! i have to wait a couple of weeks to find out my analytical score, but at least i know i did well enough to get my PhD or EdD.

the whole score thing seems unreal to me, though. how the heck could i do THAT poorly on the verbal?? i ran out of time and started guessing just to answer more quickly, though, and i think that's what did me in. i forgot that it's better not to answer at all. oh well.

yeah, i'm just rambling right now. but who else could i ramble to but my spoofee fam??

sorry to hear you did so poorly. but cheer up. first, you can take it again. second, you're right that it's good enough to get into a school. heck, some schools won't even ask for a gre.

lol... here i am, moping... so i googled "good gre scores" and came up with a lot of people complaining about how they got <400 on the verbal and/or math sections. it's not a terrible score. it's just low for me. and the schools i plan on attending will take my scores, no problem. i'm just a dumba$$ for signing up for the test 3 days before taking it :ohwell:

but I'm still waiting to hear details on your HRM. Which one did you get?

oh i got one from Nike... they had it at costco. it's alright. it doesn't track calories or anything, but it works with the treadmill at the gym as well as the wristwatch thingy. and when it's hooked up w the treadmill, it tells me the calories and all that. it's a good starter model. i'll upgrade eventually.

As a college professor, I have to admit I find GRE scores to be fairly irrelevant in predicting who will be able to successfully complete their Ph.D. and who won't. The only scores I would consider "telling" are the outliers...sometimes you see Ph.D.-hopefuls with perfect scores in all 3 categories, and at the least it indicates that they are bright enough to do the work, but it doesn't tell you anything about their tenacity or ability to work independently on their project. Any one can start a Ph.D. program but you have to be able to slog through the tedious parts, esp. after the coursework is done with (when I was getting my Ph.D. 10 years ago, I saw some very bright people who couldn't handle their experiments not working out, while some "average" students went on to finish their Ph.D.s). And I personally think anyone with scores below 400 is not grad school material, harsh as that may sound.

I'm in the sciences, so a score of 500 in verbal might not win you a fellowship, but won't raise any eyebrows either (we don't "do words" much in my field, lol!). Ed.D. programs sometimes have diff. requirements from Ph.D. programs, and even requirements for Ph.D. programs vary from place to place depending on the rigor of the program.

thanks for the insight, drifa. Ed.D. being an "educators' program" seems like it'd be more stringent, but one of the college websites i saw showed Ed.D. students with an average <500 on both verbal and quantitative. I don't feel so bad now.

besides, i know i have the drive to get the job done, so no matter which school i attend, i will certainly get (and give) everything i can!

I'm trying to discover how to make an energy beam capable of reaching the sun, overloading the fusion mechanism, and causing it to go supernova.

Anyone got any hints? I'm trying to destroy the world. I figure the best way would be to find a way to use up the helium and hydrogen causing it to become unstable, thus kick-starting the cascade.

Try using electrasol. It has a power ball now.

I think all you need to do is cross the paticle beams from your proton packs.

LOL figures... after reading his comment, first thing that came to mind for me was dish soap, too (from the word "cascade").

i think LS should consider the powerball too... only i mean the lotto thingy

Help!

The baby has a horrible diaper rash and is crying hysterically during diaper changes. :( We're on vacation so his diet is pretty different from at home, and he's on antibiotics for an ear infection...probably contributing factors. We're using Desitin and trying to keep him dry, but nothing seems to help...any advice from the more experienced parents?!!
