Lately, I have been getting lots of insurance company cards in the mail asking for me to call them & get a quote.

Lately, I have been getting lots of insurance company cards in the mail asking for me to call them & get a quote.

Remember though, most insurance companies will check for your credit report. One credit check, in my case, lowers my score by 5-7 points.

I know that if I do it several times for loan companies within 30 days, they count as 1 as they consider me shopping for rates, but I don't know whether it's true for insurance.

I used to subscribe to a credit checking service and I can tell you that the 'count as 1' thing is just smoke and mirrors. I watched my credit score get dinged with each inquiry (the final straw was when they took 20 points for one inquiry), even though it was for a mortgage and even though it was within one week from beginning of inquiries to end. Insurance is probably the same. I don't trust the credit bureaus because they hide too much and aren't generally forthcoming with their scoring models.
