Thanks, but no thanks...

There's a reason it's free, people.

IAMs does animal testing - which is wrong in the first place (and this is probably where I'll lose most of you), so how do you think those contaminated bags got out and what do you think happened to their test subjects?

Even if it's free, why take the chance and why support this company? Aren't there limits on what is considered a deal?

This is news to me! Does IAMs have pet killing facilities in China where the contaminated wheat came from? Please tell.

This is a killer deal! I just spent $14 on two bags of food for my cat this weekend. :D Thanks for the great freebie!

Update on Pet Food Recall

I guess this is as good of a place to post this as any since anyone reading this post probably has pets...

Pet food recall expanded on new finding

There's also speculation that melamine was added on purpose to artificially raise protein count.

The finding makes it much tougher to tell people what to safely feed their pets and fuels suspicions that the chemical melamine is being deliberately added to some pet food ingredients to bolster apparent protein

From here:
Fears grow on pet food

Note: This site wants you to register but if you just copy and paste "http://www.sacbee.com/101/story/156967.html" in the browser it should bypass it.

Melamine isn't an edible protein, but it has plenty of nitrogen, which can be used as a marker for protein in chemical analyses.

So, if someone wanted to use less of the relatively pricey sources of vegetable protein, such as wheat gluten, and throw in cheaper starches instead, adding melamine to that mix would still make it look like a protein-rich product, numerous veterinary nutritionists and toxicologists have said. With such speculation swirling, the rice protein-melamine link further alarmed pet owners as it began appearing on Web sites Tuesday, said Gina Spadafori, a Sacramento-based author who runs a pet Web site.
