A general response to the mis-informed
Yeah, the whole stroke fallacy is a popular misconception that uninformed people rattle about. A number of studies make it clear that there is no connection between chiropractic treatment and stroke risk.
As recently as February, a study in the journal Spine (which is not affiliated with chiropractic in the least, for those who don't know) found there is no evidence of excess risk of stroke following chiropractic spinal manipulation. In the study, researchers noted that patients are no more likely to suffer a stroke following chiropractic treatment than they would after visiting their family doctor's office. All research I have read states something along the same lines: any observed association between a vertebrobasilar artery (VBA) stroke and chiropractic manipulation is likely due to patients with a pre-existing and undiagnosed vertebral artery dissection seeking care for neck pain and headache before their stroke.
A link to that study is included here.
For a look at some other quoted research on headaches, cost-effectiveness, patient satisfaction, and comparison with other treatment alternatives, take a look at this site.
In response to your comment about advertising my services: I'm not looking to get any business out of this. I couldn't have thought less about that when I was writing that post. My goal is to open peoples' eyes to other options out there...people who are at their wit's end because of pain and no where to turn. I'm not trying to sell anything to these people. There's nothing in it for me, other than the hope that someone was helped. And to those that say I'm tooting, or blowing, my horn: frankly I have no idea what you are talking about. I'm not taking credit for any results I mentioned, and I'm certainly not promising every single person that walks into a chiropractor's office will experience relief.
I think you attackers need to chill out a little and let people hear about other options; no one is forcing anyone to do anything...if they don't like what they see, then they won't try it. No harm done, but nothing gained, either.
So, I have provided my research and support for my statements...groove1, let's see some peer-reviewed research supporting yours - I'm at a loss to find any.
...chiropractic has risks too such as chiropractic strokes. Anyway, this isn't the right place to advertise your services.
