Today, young people face many choices – choices that can affect the rest of their lives, decisions that many are unprepared to make. Often unable or unwilling to turn to parents for guidance, adolescents are increasingly susceptible to the pressures and influences of peers, who are often equally uninformed about life’s challenges and questions.
The Afterschool kit is a program designed to help youth develop the skills necessary to make the right decisions in their lives. It was developed for youth leaders to utilize in out-of-school settings such as after-school programs, sports camps, youth groups, summer camps and community events.
Developed for use with youth in grades 6 – 9, the Afterschool Kit contains six units that examine key aspects of the decision-making process:
Decision-Making Skills
Consequences
Refusal Skills
Values
Conflict
Responsibility
Each unit includes activities and games, a wall poster for display, and parental handouts to help adolescents continue to develop good decision-making skills.
