(Expired) Sunrocket 2 years for 199 is back again

I was nervous, as was my wife when we started on Sunrocket last April.

Had a few minor issues with call quality initially, but they've worked through that. Ohio Bell has had worse problems and more service interurptions that I complained about for 20 years and they never got fixed.

Our town had a flood in July, buried phone cables were shorted and much of my neighborhood had no phone for a week, but not me! Cable was high and dry and worked.

Instead of resorting to a battery back-up, I set my phone up so that after a certain number of rings it rolls to my cell phone.

I've been using SunRocket since last April and am satisfied with it. Glitches now and then but works pretty good. I wouldn't recommend it for someone whose phone service is critical without having a backup like a cell phone. But most phone calls aren't that critical--and I work at home full time.

My biggest concern right now in signing up for a 2-year plan is the Verizon lawsuit with Vonage. VZ has won an injunction on Vonage this week and many think it could put Vonage out of business (check their stock price fall this week). I've never seen the exact details of the Vonage patent infringement so I don't know how this case will pertain to other VOIP providers. Something to check into if you're thinking about this 2-year deal. I got this same 2-year deal a year ago so if Sunrocket were to suddenly get shut down, I've at least got my year's worth.

Awful service, stay away

 I didn't have 3 days of service without spending about 2 hours on the 4th day to get my services working again. The router they shipped has 2 jacks but can only use 1, which meant I could not hook up multiple bases to my line.

Website was rather primitive and not very intuitive. I also noticed that long calls (those lasting more than 30 minutes) tended to start lagging in speed. Sometimes UP TO 3 SECONDS from the time I spoke to the time recipient heard me! UNACCEPTABLE!

After struggling with it for about 3 weeks, I gave up and returned the equipment/cancelled the service.

I would not recommend it.:mmph:

Regarding SR quality. People who are having problems must have tried it a long time ago. I have had SR for 2 years now and it has been rock solid for over a year and a half. I have stuck with sunrocket because my experience with them has been much better than what I have had with vonage and at&t.

I have also signed my GF, sister, mom, and a few friends up on SR after they all saw how little I was paying for such great service. Not one of them has had a single problem.

yes, i just switched a sstated above...but my buddy has it and has had it for 2 years now and loves it as well...he is a big time nerd and he did all the checking and told me for the money this is the best company option for option out there today. i too have a home based business and all i am going to do is keep a basic service land line for 9.995 for security call center and my dvr call in as well as any emergency calls that might need to be placed ...but compared to the 70+a month i am spending till today it sounds like a deal to me.

Those that have had trouble with SR, must not have given them a chance to correct them. I switched 9 months ago, and after a couple of days of dropped calls, I haven't had any trouble, except when our cable or electricity went out. SR service itself has been great, it is everything else that causes problems. And, yes you can use all the phones in your house, not just the one attached to their "Gizmo".

My father uses SR and absolutely loves it.

Now I need a hot deal on a few phones so I can hook this thing up! Anyone know where they are on sale????

Our local CompUSA is going out of business... I think phones are 40% off right now at ours.

Thanks Kage! I forgot all about that, there are two going out of business right by me!

You get what you pay for. I switched to Vonage, and have never looked back. Sunrocket was nothing but issues, problems, and bad customer support.

Now that sunrocket has closed its doors and left all its customers stranded, all I can say is I told you so.

I decided to go with AT&T's CallVantage VoIP service. Since I'm a Cingular/AT&T customer I get $5 off there Unlimited plan making it $20. That's still 50% less than what I was paying my local teleco which I will never go back to. If I had to choose right now and I couldn't get VoIP I would go strictly with cell phones.

Vonage will be just fine, way too many customers to just call it quits without notice, and if so, Ill just go with cell only service. Verizon sucks as a home phone providor, their customer service is what made me leave.
