(Expired) Free Microsoft Software for Giving Feedback

hmmmm, not sure this is a smart thing to do, seems like big brother watching to me

Signing up for a program like this would scare me. Do you all realize what they could all use against you?

I installed it, got scared and uninstalled it. Do you think they'll try to bust you for warez?

I installed on a plain vanilla computer with a fresh install of XP hooked up to the internet. Nothing hinky.

Is it me or did they take down the part about receiving a Free MS Product.
I copied this off their site yesterday debating whether to do this or not and they had this up:

Ok, tell me more about the automated feedback program
- how does it work?
If you agree to join the program, a small amount of data will be collected using the Windows Feedback Program software. That data will be sent to Microsoft so we can monitor how your computer is working and better understand how you are using Windows and Office. This data is collected every time you use Windows and Office. We use this data to help make future versions of the software better and more useful for you and other users.

What about the free product?
If you are a Windows Vista or Windows XP user and decide to join and participate in both programs, we will send you a free Microsoft product when you participate in the program. Limit one gift per person. This offer is non-transferable. This offer expires on 12/31/07, while supplies last, and is not redeemable for cash. Taxes, if any, are your sole responsibility. The current list of products to choose from are:
· Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate (32-bit and 64-bit DVD)
· Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007
· Microsoft Money Plus Premium
· Microsoft Student with Encarta Premium 2008
· Microsoft Streets and Trips 2008

Now it has been taken off the page:

I opted out today after signing up yesterday. Here is part of the reply email I got:

"What happened to the free product option?

Thank you for your interest in the feedback program. Due to overwhelming response, the supply of gifts has been exhausted so we have closed our free product offer on 12/11/2007 at 2pm Pacific Time. Thanks to everyone that participated!"

Thanks for the update. I updated the deal as expired and put a note in the first post.

Last year it was the Powertogether.com deal where you watch some videos
and got a free copy of Vista Business. The site was so overwhelmed that you couldn't even load the splash page. Those of us that got through got that and/or Office 07.
$300 program for just watching some videos.

I still feel burned by the promotion they had a year ago where you supposably got a free copy of Vista or Office by watching a few hours of demonstration videos. Never got anything...
I too did that whole watching of videos to get the free Vista and Office, and got jack from them.

Wowwww

So many whiners here! Of those of you complaining/worried about the license and agreement, have you ever read a EULA in your life? If you're not sure what that is, it's that thing at the start of probably every application you've ever installed that makes you check the "I accept" box/radio button before being able to hit "Next". The text in EULAs is very cookie cutter. I can't recall a single one that did not include the statement to say that the company is not held responsible for ANY damage their products may do to you. This one was tame compared to many I've seen.

I personally find Office to be extremely useful especially when you consider the millions of users who use it in thousands of different ways every day with great success. Anyone that is a software developer should be able to appreciate what an accomplishment that is, regardless of their Apple/Windows bias. Anyone else can hopefully just imagine. It does 100% of what I've ever needed it to do with good ease and it can readily do 100 times more than I currently need it to do.

My family and I have signed up three of our computers in order to receive Vista, Office, and Streets and trips. It's a steal of a deal for the many hundreds of dollars worth of software that it is.

How does it tell you if you got the software? I signed up before the deadline yesterday, but haven't received any information about it.

Please keep us posted on this.

I would have signed up for this , but both times I participated in Microsoft stuff (USB drive survey, and watching the videos) I never got anything.

So I am curious as to if they follow through on this (or any of the deals).

Good luck!

There's a process in Task Manager (Control, Alt, Delete) that should show wfpcore.exe running. And you can check add/remove programs to see if Microsoft Windows Feedback Panel 3.3 is installed.
To me, this is one of the top deals of the year. A free copy of Vista Ultimate ~$330.00 as compensation for sending feedback to Microsoft for a few months. I participate in Pinecone's research surveys for $5 or $10 a month and this is far better.

They sent me Vista Ultimate and Office (Retail versions) without even asking for them. I don't have any idea why.

Icidentally, this offer is still working as of 12/15. I just got my confimation email.

The offer of free software ended 12/11/2007 at 1400 hours PT.
I started the free offer enrollment process before 2 p.m. PT but didn’t get to finish until the offer closed. Do I still receive a free software product?

All customers who entered their name and email address on the first enrollment page before the program closed at 2 p.m. PT on December 11, 2007 are eligible to receive the free offer. We review the timestamps in our system to select eligible customers, and these participants will be sent an email in January to get them up and running with the automated feedback tool, request that they pick their free product and provide us with a shipping address. If you believe you are eligible for the free gift, but have not received an email from us by January 31, 2008, please contact [email protected].

I got in just on 12/11 and since I installed the software my computer kept freezing up- or was it the nielson panel software I installed the same day? Either way- I just un-installed both of them. The aggrevation it caused was not worth whatever they were giving away for free!!!
