(Expired) Creative ZEN Vision M 30GB Media Player for $249.99 Shipped

1) I didnt have to pay for it (free beats anything else!)

thats it!

My iPod isnt 'better' than your vision. I just like it better. There are things I dont like, and I never tried a Creative video player. But you gotta admit, my reason is the best reason..

I 'm not gonna pretend to know all the tech details of either player, Id just look like a doofus.

Sorry this is two posts, but I couldnt edit my previous, too much time has passed.

But.. I would like to see a vision. the color resolution difference alone is worth a look. How big is the screen on the Vision?

I actually use my PDA for video now. It has a four inch 640x480 screen.

I also like that on the ipod I have a wheel. I dont hve to let go and replace my thunb at the top of the strip over and over again.

you know what makes this even better deal... if you have discover card and havea points... you can convert to cruthfield cards... so for instead of getting $20 back you convert to a $25 gift card... if you have enough points for $200 back... convert to crutchfield gift cards and you have $250 in gift cards

so this makes it $200

I got an email about a new message from q-ball. I come to the thread by way of the provided link and theres no post from q-ball.. This seems to happen pretty frequently.. Why? Did he delete his post?

Oh, his post is like five up. Wonder why I just now got a notification?

Well, whatever, at least Im not going crazy.

That was my point, majority of people i have seen buy an ipod for the fact that that it is an ipod. Not becasue they did research and found that the ipod was better than anyother player, it was cause someone else had it.

Same reason i see so many crappy civics running around, some kid said dang thats a cheap car i can fix up., and everyone else followed. not becuse they have researched on what is a better car to purchase. I know im ranting , but that was my point. just wanted to see if anyone would point that out.

I like creative yes, but when i go shopping i look at everything. actually i just bought a phillips mp3 player, more storage than the creative for the same price. i still have my zen 5gig.

your choice of quote confuses me. You say that was your point, but I didnt make any point at all in the post you quoted. Im confused, and I hate it when I dont know whats going on.

Hey, Im gonna shoot myself in the foot cuz no else is doing it!

Bad analogy, sure, but you get my point.. I think thats the wrong reason to buy something like this. I agree that its likely to be a better conversation starter, but so what? Get the player that works best for what you want or is aesthetically pleasing to you. If you wanna buy a conversation piece, there are lots of less expensive choices. I have a $30 Beattie Jet Lighter from the 40s or 50s and it gets noticed a lot.

I just saved you $220, wheres my cut?

woops.. this was the one, you had so many posts i got lost.

sorry

oh crap this thing plays video? and it supports Xvid and Divx?!!! i own an old Creative Zen (20gb model) and i bought it for $200 when the 15gb ipods were $300 i'm still using it even though its huge. When the iPod video came out a while back i thought okay now you can get 30gb of music and it can play videos as a plus, its getting better for the buck, but what sucks and keeps me from buying an ipod video is that it only supports quicktime video. i have much more stuff encoded in divx or xvid than quicktime, by far, so it would be useless to me. But this thing plays divx and xvid in a smaller package than one of those media devices and it has 30gb of space (i can already play videos on my PDA but i only have 1gb of space on an sd card which limits me to how many videos i can keep) Add an sd slot to the thing and it would be awesome! transfer movies from the player to my sd card and watch them on the larger screen on my PDA (480x320)

hmm now whats the resolution on that screen.. how big is it... now i'm interested...

how funny the Zen Vision (not M) is almost the same size as my current Zen and it offers Compact Flash card support but no SD card slot damn it : \ i want both!

I would LOVE for you to back up just one (any single, solitary one) of your comments with some kind of fact or reason. You love to speak out but you never support your statements.

So I ask again.. WHY is this BETTER than the iPod, kidneylovr?

Ummm.. ok, i'll take that one.

It kills the iPod in so many ways:

1) Plays MULTIPLE video formats, like xVid, Divx 4,5,and 6, avi, mpeg, WMV, mpg, mp4, Motion-JPEG, etc.. etc.. (this alone is worth the price difference).

2) FM Radio

3) 262,000 color screen. Ipod = 65k (65k is about as good as my 3 year old Sprint phone).

4) Built in microphone

etc.. etc.. etc..

I could keep going but you get the point. I suggest you stop being Steve Jobs' right hand man and actually compare the featuers of the two players and then you'll see that you really can't compare them. Why? Because the Zen Vision is just so much better for the same price (or less, in the Crutchfield deal). If you worry about downloading songs from iTunes, thats not a problem either because there are easy ways of converting them from AAC to MP3 and removing protection. In fact, Maximum PC magazine did a whole article on how to do just that.

I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I had the money. I was in your camp about 3 years ago when I blindly bought the iPod without seeking other, better alternatives.

I was in your camp about 3 years ago when I blindly bought the iPod without seeking other, better alternatives.

All your points have been made previously. And I even said I would like to check one out. Did you stop reading once you hit this post? That was smart.

You need to quit smokin that sherm.. You need to read my posts and you would see that I never said one was better. I plainly said that there are issues with the iPod. I plainly said that Im not a devout follower of any player, or platform for that matter. You would also see that I only called kidneylovr out because he never backs up his statements and theyre almost always negative. I also said that I dont know (or pretend to know) the specs for the players. I really wish youd have read all the posts before becomign high and mighty.

As for being in a camp, Im not. I tried two different players from creative and liked the iPod better for the price.

I think you took this a little too personally.

So here I am looking at the Vision:Ms online. I like them. Theyre really pretty. Theyre thicker than the ipod, but thats no major dealbreaker. Im going to buy one. I can always return it if I still prefer my iPod. So heres the problem.. Do I get the blue or the green. Im leaning toward the green, but the blue may be easier to look at for the next year...

Anyway, I found it at buy.com for 284 shipped after a coupon. Crutchfield is sold out, besides they only have the black one.

First of all, I was quoting DGJ when he mentioned about the substitutes. I, never said that the Creative player was the substitute. An MP3 player is an MP3 player, and if someone reviews it as a substitute, there is obviously something wrong in the way they think.
Wasnt DGJ who said it. He was just repeating what the great and powerful Spoof' said.

Crutchfield just lowered their price on the Creative Zen Vision:M 30GB. Great substitute for iPod Video.

Here are a few reasons why I chose my Creative player over the iPod:
1) I received an extra battery with the purchase of my Creative player
2) No need to send in your iPod to get the battery replaced for a nominal charge, along with losing everything you have if you do not back up the player (IF you can even back it up before battery goes FUBAR)
3) Appearance (Obviously my opinion)
4) Software/Interface: Plug and play instead of having to do everything through iTunes
5) Not as picky as iPod when it comes to playing videos and the format they need to be in
6) My Shure E2C's sound better on my Creative player than it does on the iPod because the sound quality on Creative players are better than that of the iPod
7) 262,144 colors compared to iPod's 65,000 colors
8) Additional options like voice record, Sync, etc.
9) Battery lasts longer than iPod's battery
Having had a little time to read, Lets address these points.

1, freebies dont affect the player.
2, the vision:m does have a preprietary bettery that is not user replacebale.
4, the vision:m uses its own media transfer prog or uses WMP to do it, its not just drag and drop.
3 and 6 are opinion, I cant debate those.
7, the vision:m screen is reported to be over saturated, causing some of the detail to be lost.
5, 8 and 9, I agree these options are good things that the iPod lacks.

You obviously dont have a vision:m since a few of your points are actually showing us the cons that you thought were pros over the iPod

All that being said, my green ZV:M is arriving today.

Expired. Coed doens't work...I called Crutchfield just to mane sure. :(
