Do you refill your water bottle?

I don't refill any water bottles, coke bottles or any other type of bottle. While obtaining my associate's degree, I learned about (and saw), in a biology class, about all the little bacteria and other organisms that arise from refilling water bottles (even after being sanitized), that can cause harmful things to happen. Therefore, when the bottle has been used one time it goes into the garbage. At one time I had a 5 gallon water cooler and had 5 gallon water bottles delivered to my home and I also returned those empty water bottles. Needless to say after that biology class I no longer have the water cooler. Seems like anymore everything we do has some type of setback to our health.

The bacteria isn't going to kill you...depending on what it is..of course. People are so afraid of germs anymore that is why people get sick more often. You need a little bit to keep your body up to par.

correct me if I am wrong: Isn't yogurt bacteria, and some of it is probiotic. :)

You ought to drink distilled water, its sterile.

I have always been told that distilled water leaches vitamins & minerals from the body (plus it really tastes flat).

Just stay away from all water - taken too quickly, in too great of quantities can be fatal if CPR is not adminstered in time.

People have been drinking water and other liquids from out-hygienic and chemically contaminated containers for quite some time and the human race is still here. Most of these tests of what the chemicals can do or can cause are probably correct but I doubt they test the chemicals as they have been subjected to stomach acids and whatever else they might be subjected to with our body filtration system. Handling that sort of thing is the purpose of stomach acids and the adrenal system.

Lets go back to the wine-skins and our drink will all be sterilized by the alcohol.

Then again I have definitely heard of people dying of liver disease whereas I think dying from plastic bottles is pretty rare (unless the bottle is maybe filled with sand and used as a weapon).

Buy your water "fresh" by-the-case and use a new bottle all the time or don't worry about.

Not always. I do only when I'm desperate for water.

Bacteria is everywhere, it's on every area of your body. There are already billions in your mouth alone. A few more in a bottle are not going to matter that much.

yea, sounds like the water companies are just trying to make you buy more water, but you never know, cancer SUCKS

Im in the second most expensive water area of the country. I pay about 1 cent per gal after you consider charges & stuff they add. 3.75 gal for a penny before that.

Due to bacterial counts in your mouth, unless you wash, and, sterilize the plastic, you are merely adding water to your infected water bottle....which you turn around and drink. Grab a new bottle of clean water, and, recycle if you can in your area.

Yeah, I've been refilling my plastic waterbottle. (with no ill results, so far...) But i'm going to buy a stainless steel water bottle as soon as I can afford it.

We refill a lot. I'm not too worried about the putting bacteria back into my mouth that came from.... my mouth! lol... I think it's personal preference. Hubby doesn't refill often cuz he doesn't like the taste.

I think being a thrifty mother makes me not care so much about funny taste and icky germs... I thrive on them :p

I refill once or twice and then give it a toss. I knew that the plastic can wear down and germs get in there and all that....I try not to think about it.......

Well, I can't even refill my water bottle even if I wanted to because I LIVE IN SAN FRAN.

This only applies to purchases made by S.F. city & county government offices.

There is no ban for residents, etc.

I noticed on a one gal bottle of Crystal G. water it says ' do not refill'.

Right now if I'm home, I'll drink tap and I usually have my kids refill a water bottle a time or two...but to 'outlaw' water bottles? Not a good idea.

My brother has well water and the business near him contaminated the ground for several years and the water in the house was horrendous. It was gross to shower, do laundry and was undrinkable. They used bottled water.

Imagine NYC's water being contaminated and everyone running to the store for bottled water....but, bottled water was 'outlawed' or heavily discouraged and therefore supplies are diminished or non-existent in the stores! Holy Hannah what a disaster!

In the disaster preparedness pamphlets, it specifically tells you to stock up on bottled water.
