Whatever, let's all just agree to disagree on this topic.

I could've built a crappy AMD system for even less.

Yeah, I'll deffinatly agree that I disagree with you on this one Lexington ... I'll take an AMD over a Celrey chip any day.

Oh yeah, and if you want to be all 'legal' get windows 2000 for $125 shipped here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3620089692&category=41885

and Corel Wordperfect Office 2003 for $29 (free ship) here:
http://www.save365.com/save365/shop/index.cfm?fuseaction=dspSpecs&part=581918

Total: $170+$125+$29=$324.00

And mine can be upgraded much easier than any compaq.

That is Windows 2000 though, not XP.

It can be done... with a couple extra bucks...

Well, I guess I will have to get into the fray also....

As far as building a good computer, P4-1.8A plus all the other stuff, an Asus motherboard instead of the crap Biostar...

This can be built for $210

What was not mentioned was the case, keyboard, mouse, cheapo speakers...

As far as the AMD vs. Intel argument.... I have never liked AMD and probably never will... I stick by Intel... That is a personal choice...

As far as OS's go, obviously you are using a computer to post your replies, so why not part out your old system, build a new one and install your old OS on the new one.... Final cost for OS! -0-
