Ok... so... you spend hours downloading the files. Then you burn them to a blu-ray disc (which you pay for) or else you quickly fill up hard drives. Then this can only be viewed on your PC, unless you have an HTPC that's hooked up to your HD display. The rips (AVI/MKV) additionally ARE NOT the same quality as the original disc. They are lossy, and on a high quality display, you will definitely notice a difference. And if they are direct rips of the movie, they will likely strip some/all of the additional audio tracks, as well as the bonus materials and bonus features. If you know where to look, and smart enough to understand and use some of the services available on the internet, then you would know that there are tons and tons of HD-DVD or Blueray rips (25-30 GB AVI/MKV), or even iso images all over the internet...with maximum download (bandwidth) speed. You never need to buy anything digital ever again. (And no, I'm not referring to torrents)
You know what? No thanks. That's a lot of time and effort. I'd rather have the actual disc, own it legitimately, and enjoy it in 100% quality, with every bonus feature, without spending hours of download time, without needing to hook my PC up to my tv, etc, etc, etc. At 30GB per movie, you'll fill up an $80, 250GB HD after 8 movies. That's $10 a movie right there. Or, you can burn them to 25GB BD-R, which are like, what, $10-$15 each? So in order to keep the movie, it's going to cost you $10 per movie. So for $15-$20, you can actually OWN the real thing. Or, for $15/month you can get a subscription to blockbuster/netflix and get unlimited blu-ray rentals.
And in the end, you might as well get a blockbuster online or netflix monthly subscription and rent blu-ray that way. If you're going to burn your movies to BD-R discs, you're probably not going to spend any more money with one of the $15/mo accounts.
Just doesn't make much practical sense to me, let alone the fact that it's illegal. I'm not going to get all preachy about what's "right" or "wrong", that's up to you to decide, but when it comes to price/convenience, I'll just pay the $20 for the real thing, with full quality audio and video, and the full selection of bouns features, or at least rent it legitimately, which is ultimately cheaper and less of a hassle than pirating.
