Are you allowing your children to "Trick or Treat?"

Of course. I respect anyone's beliefs even if I dont share them, and even if I bring up contrary arguments. After all, I want people to respect my beliefs, even if they question them, so its only fair.. Didnt mean any disrespect for asking, just wondering what parts of Halloween bother them and why.

Halloween glorifies the Devil? LOL

You are very very tolerant of belief systems old friend. Not that I am informed as to what precisely gives these folks grief, it could stem from the fact that Halloween began as a Celtic tradition, perpetuated by the Druids, which were very educated High Priests at the time. They believed that on Halloween Night, the veil between the living and the dead "thinned" allowing communication between the same. That alone could bother a Christian? Also, some of the early practices which, while pagan and not Satanism in nature, could offend some Christiam sects? The Druids I remember offered sacrifices of animals and, of agricultural affair, again, any sacrifice other than Christian intent, may have to be avoided. There is a huge difference between being a Pagan, and, being involved in Satanism. Halloween has pagan roots, not satanistic ones.

Guess my faith in God is one that sees our Heavenly Father as a kind, loving God who would give a kid a cookie or a piece of candy! Works for me, and Jeb who just got a new bag of "Zuk's" in peanut butter flavor, and, a new bag of bones for his Halloween treat! LOL LOL

Uhh, there are many many stories in the bible of those devoted to God performing animal sacrifices. Even Abraham (I think it was him) was going to kill his own son. If people are going to be appalled by animal sacrifices, shouldnt they be appalled by all animal sacrifices and not pick the ones that do and dont bother them based on whether or not the person doing the sacrifice was someone who shares their faith?? Why was it okay for this group of people and not that group of people? Because they called their god by a different name? Thats hypocrisy. Its all the same god whether you say Jehova, Yaweh, Allah, God, whatever.

But this isnt a religious forum, or a thread on religious customs and beliefs, so I dont know that we should actually debate this.. Besides, as always, I inadvertently will say something to piss of the board.

Halloween also served as a ritual to try to confuse or frighten away the spirits. They believed that by dressing up in a costume the spirits wouldnt recognize them.

Halloween was great when I was a kid. The first house you had to go to was Mrs. Young's. Had to get get there before she ran out of popcorn balls(which never made it home). It seemed like the entire neighborhood was out and about. All the houses we went to were people we knew. I think that's part of the problem nowadays. Most people don't know their neighbors, which is rather sad.

And no one is too old for trick-or-treating. In college, a group of us looked up our professors' addresses and showed up at their houses trick-or-treating. They thought it was great! We even netted an entire grocery bag full of candy the next day at band practice because the band director wasn't home (we left her a note).

I'm from a little hick town in Iowa and we love Halloween. We love to get dressed up and take the kids 'out on the town'. Usually, we hit grandparents first and then we visit the 'best houses' the ones with the good candy!!!!
My oldest is going to be a cheerleader, the middle one is a witch, and the littlest one is Tigger! Even better, this weekend the girlfriends and I always dress up and go to the town Halloween party. I'm 8 mo. preg. so I don't think I'll dress up this year but will still go.

No, no, no, Rose... You should dress up. Theres lots of neat ideas for pregnant women.. My favorite one is to dress up like a white trash type guy and use the baby as a beer gut. Wear a trucker hat, cover a few of your teeth with that black putty stuff, etc. Of course, depending on just how 'hick' your town is, the guys might think youre making fun of them. lol.

edit:
Here ya go.. knew I saw it somewhere..

No! I'll give them all the treats they want for that day. LOL JK.

I actually went to the same trunk of treat that Snibble went to Sunday--but we didn't get to meet each other... :(

For Halloween, we'll probably trick or treat for a little while and then go to my church's trunk of treat. What time do/should people start trick or treating anyway?

Michael is Optimus Prime (transformer) this year.

I am so sorry I missed you! I took Johanna trunk or teating while my hubby stayed behind and passed out treats!

My children won't be trick or treating this year, as they say "I'm too old mom". LOL They are 13 and 16 so I imagine they will be playing the xbox 360 during the halloween festivities. They are participating in halloween parties (hosted by friends) that are being held this weekend. If mychildren were going trick or treating this year, I would most definitely be going with them. The local news has been reporting all the trunk or treat sites and businesses who are offering trick or treating activities. I do know also that any sex offenders that live in this state must be in their homes and have their doors closed and lights out by 6 pm. They can not answer their doors unless it is their probation officer or other type of law enforcement officer. After 10 pm they can leave their homes and open their doors. I have purchased a few bags of candy, but all those calories and pounds will probably reach my hips, as I do not have many trick or treaters here where I live. I hope everyone has a safe and HAPPY HALLOWEEN. Have fun and be careful.

Too old for free candy?! The fools! lol

I had no idea about the sex offenders restrictions. Thats pretty cool and really good to know.. I should tell my folks in case theyre worried about letting my nephew go..

My oldest son is 6' 7" tall, weighs 320 lbs, and wears an 18 shoe so he feels that many people would not believe that he is still a kid LOL I guess they figure if they want some candy, they will just eat what candy I bought for the trick or treaters cause I will probably only have 1 or 2 and they will get the rest (the candy that hasn't already hit my hips and thighs). LOL

...I had no idea about the sex offenders restrictions. ...

That's why you have to read the papers they gave you. ;)

It's at the end of the page that also tells you how to change the battery on your ankle bracelet (so they tell me) :ignore:

Aw jeez... Always gotta rat me out. Im only on this board because of the naive eleven year olds. Yeah.
