AOL Services for Free

I'm one of the suckers here..(aka still an AOL member) I've been keeping my account just because I wanted to keep my email address and the easy access to news everytime I sign on. I have AOL Broadband and I pay 25 dollars a month (OMG!). It's time to cancel! :D

when they say they have 'changed'...why does the jingle from the south park movie pop in my head...the jingle where saddam is singing to the devil trying to convince him he has 'changed'...........AOL is a joke..soon to be history..bye bye AOL

I'm also still with AOL (sucker that I am) and I just called them up to lower my price to $9.95 or else I'll cancel.......they ok'd the price. Ugh, I'm still a sucker. :o

Do you know of any cable company (not DSL) that provides high-speed internet access cheaper than $25? It would have to be avilable in Charlotte of course, and I think TW has a monopoly here. Our phone company is BellSouth and I hate them, so I have TW digital phone.

Optimum Online Cable - $29.99 a month*, EXTREMELY fast. (Worth that extra 5 bucks a month!)

*For the first 6 months. But you can share this connection with many other people through a router. We have Optimum Online Cable and there's 6 computers at home sharing this connection (3 wired and 3 wireless). Still extremely fast!

I called AOL and cancelled my Broadband today...the wait was about 10-15 mins...I asked her to change my Broadband plan to FREE plan and I did it without any problems! Woohoo!

Does anyone have Windstream? If so, how is it?

So, I still have AOL but have BS as my internet provider. Why? I have a bunch of stuff on my favorites, sites saved, as well as a lot of stuff saved in my "filing cabinet" on AOL. Years of files and e-mails I want to save to access later, and yes, I've had to access a lot of it.

I haven't been able to find any information about if I take the free AOL if I will still be able to access all this info or will it disappear or be unaccessible unless I continue to pay AOL.

Anyone know about this????? Id' love to be able to save another $15 a month!

Just move all that stuff to a yahoo email address. They have a huge storage space. It woould probably be best to back it up too.

Call and change to the FREE Plan...everything remains the same. You just don't get Tech Support anymore and you can't use it as a dial up service anymore...that's all they told me. :)

When you call, just say "customer service" to the machine or you'd have to talk to the automated machine for a while...

They still remember my login after 6 years

I used to be an AOL subscriber but I cancelled their servise at least 6 years ago.
I tried to log in a couple of times since with no avail.
When I tried today - it let me in!
The only reason for me to use AOL - their radio stations including XML.
I used it for a while on a limited basis but now apparently there will be no limit. Good!

They have commercials on the AOL radio now blah...Not just promos or station ids either, real commercials. Kind of annoying.

There's no way to transfer items like "favorites" to another website, it has something to do with the way their written. Found on another website "AOL is notorious for saving information in proprietary formats. Unlike with other browsers, you can't just transfer your bookmarks or favorites"

I did find a back up website to keep favorites on. I'm going to call and see if all our info in our filing cabinets as well as all the pics I have on my FTP space can be kept. Does anyone know about the FTP spaces? Are you allowed to keep ALL your names you use on AOL, or just your main name? We utitilize all our accounts, all 7 of them.

I have Bellsouth have never used their service other than getting on line, I don't think I've even ever seen their homepage!

I've been wanting to get rid of AOL for years, but the above has kept me there.

I think people are going to be leaving in droves!

when we switched from AOL to Verizon we were able to transfer all our "favorites" over.I am pretty computer illiterate so I don't know if this is the correct term but ,Verizon had a ?program? that lets you transfer all your stuff like favorites and address books and so forth.
