The Seagull S6 Guitar – The Original Updated for Left-Handed Guitarists

Winner of several awards, the S6 is perhaps the instrument that best represents the Seagull philosophy. The S6 offers entry level players the opportunity to experience the great feel and superb sound provided by a hand finished neck, select solid Cedar top and a Custom Polished Finish.

The back and sides are constructed of wild cherry, the neck of silver-leaf maple, and a rosewood fingerboard and bridge.

Seagull guitars all feature Tusq nuts and saddles. The fully compensated saddle helps the Seagull S6 original acoustic guitar play beautifully in-tune all over the neck.

This model for the Seagull S6 guitar is designed with left-handed guitarists in mind.

    The Seagull Original Guitar Series

The guitars that make up the Seagull Original series represent one of the world's outstanding values in acoustic guitars. The back and sides of the Original series models are made from a three-layer lamination of Wild Cherry wood. With a sound that lands somewhere between the mellow tone of a Mahogany guitar and the bright sound of Maple, Wild Cherry has proven itself to be an excellent tone wood. Grown locally, Wild Cherry is also a choice. Original series guitars feature very smooth necks made from Silver Leaf Maple.

All Seagull Guitars Feature Reverse Headstocks

Each Seagull neck starts out as a single piece of Mahogany or Silver Leaf Maple. The wood is cut at a 45 degree angle after which the top piece - the Headstock - is glued back on with the grain reversed. This is an essential step in the Seagull process for creating incredibly stable necks.

    More About Seagull Guitars

The Seagull story wouldn't be complete without mentioning La Patrie. La Patrie is a small village in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. This is where the first Seagulls were made in the early eighties. Today, La Patrie has a population of about 475 and about half of these people are guitar builders. These folks take a great deal of pride in the guitars they build.

I wanted a hand crafted guitar that didn't come from China .There wasn't many reviews for this guitar but they were all good, so I took
a chance on it. "Was very pleased with the purchase! The guitar is very clear, and has a mellow but aggressive tone. I'm not a
Professional player I have two other guitars, a Yamaha FG335 & a Alvarez RD16. The Seagull S6 outshines them both.
I know it's not compared to a hand crafted American Gibson or Martin, but to my ears it sounds great! Also the set up on this guitar was very easy with no problems @ all. I set the neck relief to .008 thousands, lowered the bridge nut so that the low "E" string was .090 thousands & the high "E" string to .075 thousands. Also the neck nut grooves were perfect. This reflects that the
maple neck was straight & the frets were ground flat & even, took about an hour. Not even close for the time it took to set up my other two guitars that I spent four hours or more on filing frets. I bought this guitar for a very good price from "Amazon" and I'm very happy with it! Also this guitar has cherry back & sides & a solid cedar top. I've noticed that "Martin" makes one of there American hand crafted guitars with cherry back & sides, that costs about four times the price of the Seagull s6.

I have to say I love this guitar, though I'll admit that I don't have any comparison with big-dollar acoustics. I do have some high end electric guitars though, and since that is my main preference, I wanted a more modest acoustic just for fun.

This is very well made, and plays great. Fairly low action, hold tune well, strong resonance. No complaints at all. Given the cost of other US Made acoustics (this is made in Canada, which is in-line the US labor costs), I don't know how they make this for this cost.

Great guitar, nice warm deep tone. Would buy again.

I am a fairly new guitarist who happens to be left handed as well. I have been searching for a new acoustic to replace the typical first purchase mistake many students make (Fender). I have a lot of prior experience with music and sound recording so I was looking for a guitar that would make me want to play it just to hear the sounds it made. My wife and I narrowed down the choices to an Eastman E20D and the Seagull S6, but choose the Seagull after realizing that the Eastman was a tad too expensive for my skill level. The Seagull is a real pleasure to play. It has the best sound to my ears from guitars that are under $500.00. My wife and I are studying classical guitar as well and I find the wider nut spacing to be nice as well. I am also glad this guitar has laminate back and sides because I don't have to worry quite as much with maintenance as I would have with an all wood guitar. I listened to many sound clips and read a lot of posts/reviews on the Acoustic Guitar Forum and couldn't be happier with this gift.

The sound quality is crisp and clean.. not too bassy but with a bass presence.. the guitar plays well flatpicked or fingerstyle and demonstrates good sustain... the Seagull S6 stays in tune and the neck plays fast and smooth... this a a larger guitar and would not fit my peitite wife well but my wider hand likes the neck width a lot... the shorter scale also allows for easier playing as there is less string tension, a big plus for any beginner...

Bottom line: Excellent guitar for the price, good volume and playabilty.

I would recommend a couple of things:

    1. Please think long and hard about avoiding the mistake I made and do not purchase the cheapest guitar you can find as a beginner. You're chances of sticking with it and getting better as so much harder. Learning guitar is challenging enough.

    2. Have the Seagull taken to a qualified tech and have the truss rod, nut, and saddle adjusted correctly (a "set-up"). Make your guitar as easy to play as possible.

    3. Use light gauge strings when learning... make it easier on yourself... As your abilities grow, so will your knowledge and ear training. Save the thicker strings for down the road.

    4. If possible, get good instuction. It's worth every penny when you find a good teacher and my wife and I have benefited greatly.

I usually do not write reviews that often, but this guitar as well as being left handed, has inspired me to write. Good luck!
