Wireless USB Network Adapter

There are many things to consider here. I use two separate wireless USB adapters in my house. Both are right next to each other. The AP is on another floor on the opposite side of the house. If I had gone with the standard dongle type like you linked to, neither device would have a very good connection. Instead, I went for adapters that connect by USB cable and have adjustable antenas. My D-link usually gets pretty good signal for the PC it's attached to (65% minimum), but my Linksys is marginal for the TiVo it's attached to (usually 50% or so). Unfortunately, TiVo only supports certain devices, so I didn't have a lot of choice.

I guess what I'm saying is, you want to find an adapter that will give you a good signal or you won't be happy with it. I often cannot transfer TiVo programs or listen to music on my TiVo because of "network problems" most likely the results of a poor signal from the adapter. But if you're planning to use this on a device that will always be really close to the access point or something, then by all means go for the lowest price!

The device will be less than 15 feet away from the access point. No biggie. I've seen these things going for $10 AR and didn't have the money at the time. Now that I've got the money, I don't see the good deals. :banghead:

Best I could find was D-Link 802.11b dongle for $20 AR from circuitcity.com, web purchase only, but free shipping or free in-store pickup.

Thanks Sonan. Maybe I'll wait for another week or two and see if anything comes down in price again. Heck with the pre-802.11n stuff coming out, a 'b' dongle should be less expensive.
