Power always goes out here for like 1 second at a time. Just enough to not affect an old AT powered computer, but enough to reboot some of the more high powered ATX computers I have. I lost a Dual Athlon Motherboard and GeForce4 card to a quick drop and then restore of power, even when protected by a surge protector.

These little ups are perfect for the job. I mean, if the power is going to be out for anywhere from an hour to five hours or even more...you're not gonna find an ups from best buy etc. that is going to keep your computers going anywhere near that long, the idea of the ups for me is to allow you time or allow automated software time to shutdown expensive computer equipment.

vcr is no big deal, but depending on the size of your tv you are going to need a serious ups to handle the load.
