Sunglasses and 5.8Ghz cordless

FYI, just saw the most current instore Fry's ad, and they have the refurb uniden dct6465-2 for $29.99. Unfortunately, Outpost.com doesn't seem to have the same price listed (unless I'm maybe checking the site too early).

I checked the Uniden web site, and this model has the handset speakerphone, frequency (2.4GHz), and expandability features you wanted, and it has no answering machine.

Anyway, it's too bad Fry's and Outpost.com don't always have the same prices. :(

Yeah, no Fry's over here on the east coast. I talked the Uniden idea over with my mom and we might even keep the second unit. It doesn't hurt to have a keypad in two rooms, and a new phone for my parent's computer room even though we have one to use up there, especially for the total price.

DON'T BUY IT YET!!!

I just got off the phone w/ Uniden, and you can't expand the tru5885-2 beyond 2 handsets total It's not mentioned on their website, but this is the case w/ both the 5885 & the 5865. Also, buying two "-2" phone systems doesn't mean they'll work together. You need to buy the add'l handsets if you want to expand.

The tru8 (5.8 GHz) series phones are expandable to up to 10 handsets, and the dct6 (2.4 GHz) series phones are expandable up to 4 handsets total.

Uniden is currently selling the "like new" dct6465-2 for $69.99. The add'l handset that goes w/ the dct6465-2 phone is the dcx 640, and they're selling the refurb dcx 640 for $25. Shipping is $10, and only Texas residents have to pay tax. Your total order would be around $105. I think this is the better way to go.

Thanks so much for all your work and letting me know. However, if I get two of the Uniden systems, that gives me four phones running off two bases for the same price. Isn't that a good way to go?

Not sure. The Uniden rep did mention that you could use two 5885-2 phone systems in the same house w/out problems. But you may want to call the Uniden CS # to see exactly what features you'd be missing out on by not expanding w/ an "add'l handset" (i.e. the models that have an "x" in their name, e.g. the dcx640).

For example, this is for a different maker, but we have a Olympia cordless phone & an add'l handset for it, and by presetting phone #'s in one phone, they automatically get stored in the other phone. I think a feature like this would be lost if you had two phone systems, perhaps?

Yeah, it would only be for each of the two systems of two handsets each. That isn't much of a big deal anyway. If anything, it might be better since two of the handsets (base and additional) would be going in my dad's office and his computer room and it would be good to have just his customer's numbers up there.

Downstairs, we would store our personal numbers. No real harm there. I'll definitely call Uniden CS when I get a chance.

If you have belkin 2.4 gz wireless router, you may run into problems 2.4 uniden phone. I had to change mine

Good point. I have a Belkin G router hooked up right now with a B wireless card on my dad's company laptop. I had a Belkin B router before but I got the FAR one at Staples to upgrade to G, not that I like Belkin or anything, but they're the cheapest. My dad has been having problems lately when he brings his Panasonic 2.4GHz phone in from his office, so I told him to use one of our 900MHz ones for now. But yeah, Belkin networking products have a problem with 2.4GHz phones for sure. It's weird because it didn't happen in the past.

This is a good point, druvans. Thanks for bringing it up!

Erik, forget the DCT6465-2. Now it looks like the TRU5885-2 (x2) is the way to go!

Yeah, I keep thinking about the 88 series now just to get everything done right. Not sure what I want to do yet. I like the style of the 58 series better which is why it caught my eye, and it's cheap. However, the 88 system seems to be a lot more versatile. I want to give it just a little more thought before I buy.

Yeah, the tru88 series may be almost twice the cost of the tru58 series. For example, the Uniden site lists the "like new" 8865-2 for $130.00. The TRU8885-2 is $160 "like new" . The TCX800 (add'l handset for either the TRU8865 or the TRU8885) "like new" is $35. So if you buy from the Uniden site, you're looking at spending at minimum $130 (8865-2) + $35 + $10 shipping = $175 total.

But you're right, if you're not in a huge hurry, definitely don't buy yet. Besides, with a little time, the price of most everything eventually comes down to a range that would be more affordable.

OK,
Amazon is selling the new TRU8865-2 for $116.87 through Circuit City, and the newTCX800 for $44.87. If you can pick these up form your local CC store, you could save on shipping and your total would be $ 161.74 (although doesn't CC not charge SHIPPING for purchases over $50?). Overall, less than Uniden, and you get new phones.

Unfortunately, since these are shipped by CC and not Amazon.com, you wouldn't qualify for those bonus GC's w/ electronics purchases.

Overstock.com has a referb Uniden PowerMax TRU5885-2A Dual Handset 5.8Ghz DSS for $94.99. Shipping is about $3...

Kage_

The 5885 on Overstock used to be a lot cheaper. I was screwed out of the deal after Chris failed to give me a discount better than the 12% coupon, so I scrapped that idea. Plus, penpen found eCOST which is lower.

Get this. Costco sells the Uniden 8885 with three handsets total included for $159.99. I recalled them having this a few days ago and hadone of my clients go to get a pack. It's quite a phone system. Very nice. If I'm going for the 8800 series, I'll probably go to Costco. I need to decide whether I can do a system that is only expandable to two handsets under one unit before I buy, plus I'm not in that big of a hurry.

Just wondering if you typo'ed b/c the tru5885, i think, doesn't have the ability to expand to as many phones as the uniden tru88 series phones - which are what I thought you were looking for now? PS is that an instore price, b/c when I checked on costco.com, I see a different model# listed (the tru8866 (not -2) @ 139.99! The Add'l handset (tcx800) is going for $48.99 a piece...which means you'd need to pay over $200 for your phones ! ouch.

Yeah, my mistake. I meant the 8885. Yeah, the 8885 with 2 additional handsets (pack of 3) is at Costco in store for $159.99.

Wow, then that is a good price!

Yeah, I had actually come from Circuit City and then to Costco with my client because I recalled that they had that 8885 bundle which was exactly what she needed. Circuit City actually wanted $159.99 just for the 8885-2, isn't that funny? The expansion at Circuit City was $49.99 so I guess you can call going to Costco a savings of $50, or a free extra handset if you're going to buy the unit! :D
