Just an idea,
Let’s post the various store price match guaranties so someone isn't turned away from a store claiming they don't price match.

CompUSA:

http://www.compusa.com/terms.asp#pricing

CompUSA’s Retail Store Low Price Guarantee.
We'll match any local retail competitor's advertised price on every technology product we sell, either at the time of purchase or within the following 21 days. Our low price commitment covers all new, factory sealed products of the same brand and model number that are available, and in stock, at any local retail store. Our commitment does not apply to Internet offers or any one-of-a-kind or other limited-quantity offers, discontinued or close out items, refurbished products, trade-in sales, or special financing.

Staples:
http://www.staples.com/content/Help/Using/general_match.asp

How does Staples 110% price-match guarantee work?

If you find a lower price, anywhere else on a new identical item, just show us the lower price when you buy the item at Staples or within 14 days of your Staples purchase — and we'll give you 110% of the difference.

Which items does Staples price match?

Almost everything we sell. The item must be identical, including model number, components and U.S. warranty. For wireless phones and other items with a service plan, the plan, provider, and other terms must be the same. The item must be in stock and available for purchase at that price from an authorized US reseller, whose authorization we reserve the right to verify.

Which items and services aren’t available for price-match?

We don’t match our store prices to those on other companies’ web sites. We don’t price match our third-party providers' products and services (e.g., Sprint® service, tax preparation, payroll services, and custom printing), items sold on auction sites or at local or special events (e.g., grand opening, anniversary or liquidation sales). We don’t price match taxes and typographical errors.

Circuit City:

Price Guarantee

If you've seen a lower advertised price from another local store with the same item in stock, we want to know about it. Bring it to our attention, and we'll gladly beat their price by 10% of the difference. If you see a lower advertised price (including our own sale prices) within 30 days of your purchase, we'll refund 110% of the difference.

Our policy applies only to advertised prices. It does not apply to special offers or promotions, including rebates, free-with-purchase offers and special financing. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide price matches online, so please visit the closest Circuit City store to take advantage of our Price Guarantee.

nice :claps:
thanks Liquid_Squelch!

I dunno if this belongs in the right category but some stores have a scanner policy. If the price is wrong when they scan it, the store would deduct $3 or so off. I believe that is walmart's policy.

In Michigan, all of the above occurances would be covered by the Michigan Consumer Protection Act's "Scanner Law". This Law requires stores to CLEARLY label all merchandise. Grocery stores are required to have sticky labels on everything. If your item scans wrong (higher than the label) you get the difference, plus an amount equal to TEN TIMES the difference, not less than $1, not more than $5 total. The sale must complete, so they have the chance to fix it before they give you the total. Then you go to the customer service desk and say you want a refund based on Scanner Law.

Write your Attorney's General, and read the Michigan Law for yourself at http://www.michiganlegislature.org/...ct-449-of-1976. See 445.360a for the section

albertsons

if they scan an item and it is the wrong price, they have to give it to you for free. My friend was a cashier there and she said, that is their policy but some cashiers wont give it to you unless you ask for it to be free.

Mattresses

Had an interesting conversation about mattresses and their prices last night.

Most retail stores have a price matching guarentee but is it actually true that each store renames the models so that you can't compare them even if you wanted to? My experience and that of others is that you can really just go in and name whatever price you want and they'll either take it or they won't. If they won't, you just go to the next store.

Any tips and tricks on this industry?

Any thing similar for Wal-mart???
I was there once on the counter with a T-shirt and they were not able to validate the price.. the cashier asked me how much it was.. i said i dont know... she called up the department but could not get the price.. so she gave it to me for $1. I have got two more kids stuff for $1 for which i know for sure the rate was above $7. Dont know if it is their store policy.

oh yeah, for mattresses, go with a good store. they have good margins. We got a mattress that was priced at 1800 for about 1300 and a higher priced headboard/footboard combo for the price of a lower not in stock one without much hassles and a 36 month 0% APR. The mattress is a Sealy so not just a shady brand either. its purely YMMV.

Does BarnesandNoble.com Pricematch??

Does anyone know BarnesAndNoble.com's price matching policy? Will they match Amazon.com? Their 'member price' on 3 books I want is $5 more than Amazon's regular price... but I can't find ANYWHERE that says they do price matching for their online store.

Forgot to update the thread, but B&N.com does not pricematch competitors from what the not-so-friendly CSR told me.

Pet Supplies Plus matches local sales

I price match often at our pet supplies plus. As long as you bring in the ad with the date it is running they will price match. They also double coupons up to 50 cents.

I just ordered a t.v. from staples.com, they priced matched walmart and knocked the price down $100. They didn't beat em, but I got to use my staples store credit checks to buy the t.v.:)

Tigers prices are pretty competitive. Try going to a local Sears store, the sales guys seem to know all the competitive prices around since they work on commission. They will price match most places that best buy and CC will not and will give u good info. You might even get a 10% rebate on top of the lowest price match..I did.

Walmart Price Matching Policy

Walmart Price Matching Policy
Price matching

Our goal is always to be the low price leader in every community where we operate. Our customers trust us to have every day low prices ... there's no need for "special sales."
Our unbeatable promise:

Store managers make the final decision in always taking care of our customers, but we do have guidelines for matching our competition.

* We do honor "Preferred Shopping Card" advertised prices. Must be like items, be advertised and require a competitor's shopping card, for the discount to apply.
* We do not honor advertisements that require a purchase in order to receive the advertised price or free product.
* We do not honor "Buy One / Get One Free" advertisements.
* We do not honor double or triple coupons or percent off advertisements.
* We do not honor other retailers' "Misprinted" advertised prices.
* We do not honor Internet Pricing.
* We do not honor competitor advertisements from outside of the store's or Club's local trade territory. (This means that if you live in Chicago, you can't bring in an ad from Des Moines. It has to be a Chicago store's ad.)
You may want to go to the URL below and print this out becase, as with their coupon policy, many Walmart cashiers and even managers have no idea what their policy is.

I know! That kills me when you wait in line for an item, just for the cashier to not know what the price matching policy is. I always run my items through twenga so I don't have to deal with the hassle. I just purchase whatever the lowest price is. I was looking for a juicer and found one for much cheaper than Wal Mart. Instead of heading back, I just bought it online.
