I have one of these scanners now and have given a couple of them away when they were offered in the past.

These are the old "Artec" brand and they work great. They are simple, reliable, solidly built and give a high resolution scan. i believe they are 48 bit. Mine is sitting right here now.

There is absolutely no reason to buy a HP or a Canon when these Artecs are available for nearly free. Also their other peripherals are great too.

For some reason Staples discontinued the Artec labels from their stores. About six months ago they ran clearance on their stock and I said "oh well, another quality manufacturer gone"

Now its back labeled as a Memorex product. They should have stayed with Artec as nothing I've ever had from Memorex has been other than junk. Especially recording tape.

I recall 20 years ago when their high end stuff was really good, up there with maxell and tdk, but not long after it just went to junk.

The trick with all memorex computer products is to find out what the thing actually is, ie visioneer, artec, liteon in the case of burners, etc. If ya know what it's a rebadge of, you can score some good deals.
