Frugal Ways to save $$ everyday?

I buy generic medications. I dilute my liquid dish soap to wash dishes. When I buy socks, I buy the same style and color so if one gets a hole, I can just replace it with other mates. When I travel, I pack my own drinks and foods, especially if I have children along, saves big bucks. During spring months I will frequent yard sales, or festivals to have a look for bargains. Also, I have a "Christmas Club" and come October I only spend that which I have saved! But most importantly, I only buy that which I can afford and have only one credit card!!

I almost always check our local Salvation Army stores if I am looking for something in particular that doesn't NEED to be bought brand new,it's amazing how much you can save that way and how many great quality brand name items you can find there. Now that the kids are older we don't do this that often but the library is a great money saver, not only for books but they also have movie VHs's and DVD's and music CD's that you can borrow for free as well as museum and park passes for free or for a great discount.I always take advantage of CVS's free after ECB promos(have enough shampoos n conditioners n toothpaste n mouthwash and feminine products to last about a year from their OCT. promos, and they were all free lol). That's all I can think of right now.

Speaking of diluting dish soap.... Those new foaming dispensers are totally reusable, and work much better that the one I bought from Pampered Chef. The Herbal Essence face wash or the Stridex ones work great, all you need to do is put a little hand soap or dishwasher soap in and add water.

I go through all the grocery store sale ads on Sunday and make a list of the things I use that are on sale. Then I go to Walmart to buy everything and ask the cashier to price match the sale items. I get to take advantage of all the sales without having to make trips to lots of different stores.

We save money on our phone bill by using Viatalk. My husband's family lives in Ecuador and it is MUCH cheaper to call them through Viatalk. We do all our local, long distance, and international calling for about $40 per month. For cell phones, we both have prepaid plans, and we don't use them much, so we pay about $300 per year total for cell phones ($25 per month).

Instead of cable, which we don't have a lot of time to watch anyway, we have Netflix-- $16.50 for netflix + $9.99 for basic cable per month instead of $50 per month for the next step up in cable.

Another way we save money is my husband has learned how to fix lots of stuff. If he doesn't know how to fix it, he will find out. He fixes our cars, lawnmower, computers, everything. We save a bundle because we never have to take our cars to the shop and pay for lots of labor, just parts. One time, the neighbors across the street were throwing out a TV that looked brand new-- much nicer and bigger than ours. Because he knows how to fix stuff, my husband was able to fix it by changing out a part that cost 50 cents at Radio shack. We then looked at similar TVs at the store-- one like it would cost about $300 new! We really enjoy watching basic cable our 50 cent TV, lol.

I think the best thing we do money-wise is to pay ourselves first. As soon as we get paid, we transfer money to a money market account and our IRA's. We don't miss it, and if we continue to save at the rate we've been saving, we should be millionaires by the time we're 55.

I like to keep a bottle of fabric refresher handy to freshen up the house every once and a while....but I couldnt believe how expensive Fabreeze has become and it didnt take long to use the whole bottle.
I decided to try out the All brand.....it was like $2 and some odd cents where Fabreeze was almost 5 bucks!!!!
I have used it alot and it still isnt empty - plus it is stronger than Fabreeze - meaning that the smell lasts longer than Fabreeze. And it smells just as good!

If you like Fabreeze, you will love All!

my friend re-uses his socks, he just flips them around. oh yeah, because they are so expensive he does that with condoms too. :clown:

agreed! I tried All a while back for the same reasons, and found that I like it much better

If you have a Dollar General locally, I got a bottle of the Renuzit brand (very nice scent) for the car for a dollar.

I'll have to try that. Hey - a dollar is a dollar!

Living in the Midwest it can get rather chilly here, so I hang a cheap dollar store table cloth in he living room doorway and close it off to the rest of the house. That way my furance can be turned down much lower. Saves a bundle!

I also buy paper towels and cut them down the center (width) before I put them on the towel holder. Cheaper than buy bounty pre cut towels!

I buy cheap paper towels to begin with. Usually the 50 cent a roll ones. I have begun to save money by shopping @ CVS with my CVS card. They have some pretty good deals if you catch them. There are always a few items in Sunday's ad that are free w/ your card.

Dont pay those high prices for those poisonous Girl Scout Cookies!!

I've done this in the summer time to keep our livng room cooler with the air condiitoner since there was no door to the room and we realy didn't need the adjacent hallway cooled down.

Last night I made Chicken Enchiladas and today I am freezing them in individual Ziplock containers. It's much cheaper than buying frozen dinners and my husband and I can take them to work instead of buying lunch. :)

That's a good idea. When I cook something that takes time to prepare and will freeze, I always make 2. It saves work later and we can eat something good for dinner even on a busy day. I just thaw it the night before and bake.

Hmmm interesting, but what if you want bologna on wheat? :clown:

Well the way I save money is I use Freecycle. It is a great way to get something you need from someone who is maybe going to either :a) throw it in the garbage or... b) someone just doesn't use it anymore.I also go to thrift stores to buy some clothes....****blushing ****in embarrassment. Then I come here to find cool free stuff like deodorant, shampoo and toothpaste samples.I don't know if anyone has tried this for mosquito control..but take a Bounce fabric sheet and loop it through the loop on your jeans or shorts...skeeters hate the smell of them.
