Free HP Notebook PCs TO BE OFFERED Through Universal Savings

The notebook is: Compaq Evo N1015v (AMD Athlong 1.2G).

The titel says it all: "to be offered" The info is from this link below. There is no other information yet , not even from any Internet search about Universal Savings Bank. I did not trying to call them to get information though, just earch the internet to no avail.

The wire is from Quicken, under HPQ stock quote and News of May 19.

So you're saying that they'll give you a free laptop for opening a credit card account with them? I'd easily have my parents do that and then not use the credit card or cancel it once we receive it. There has to be some catch. I don't understand quite how this works. Maybe you could fill me in. This is something I'd like to jump on right when it comes out. I'd LOVE a laptop, and I'm too cheap to pay for one. :(

The page is no longer valid ... :?:

The link worked for me - plus I found contact information

The link worked for me. I also found contact information for them through www.superpages.com online phonebook site. Here is the contact info:

Universal Savings Bank - Main OFC
754 North 4th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53203
(414) 297-4700

They're gonna hate this now because a million people will be calling and bugging them at this bank office local number.

Found website for the bank

I found them again, now a website www.usb.com (no, it's not a computer site). When you click the link it redirects to a bank called "fifth third bank." So, Universal Savings Bank might have been bought out. Here is what I found on the last search I did:

Universal Savings Bank, F.A.
754 N. Fourth Street
Milwaukee, WI 53203 414-297-4705

Plus from what I read, you'd have to maintain a minimum $3,000 balance for 12 months. Now, if you normally carry a huge balance, this would not be a bad idea. Interest on $3K balance over the year would work out to <$400, and if you're gonna pay that anyway . . .

Also note, you have to be prescreened by them, and invited to apply.

UPDATE: The details, true cost ~$330

This is definitely a great deal for some people. You decide:

The laptop is the Compaq Evo N1015V (1.53GHz Athlon XP, 256MB, 20GB, DVD-ROM, Windows XP, 14.1''TFT), best price on Pricegrabber is $968.

If you qualify, your Visa Platinum is a variable rate, prime +6.74%, currently 10.99%. Initial transfer must be $5,000, and you must maintain a $3,000 balance for 12 months. That equates to at least $330 in interest expense. Not a bad price to pay for a notebook, but it depends on how you feel about another credit card.

There is an online application, but it requires an invitation code, so you must apply over the phone unless you received a flyer in the mail. Call 1-888-826-5022 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. EST, Monday – Friday. Just mention the Evo offer when you call.

Here's the online info linky.

Go to it, you Spoofee maniacs! :yum:
