Amazon's reply to my letter

with Lid you ordered from Macys.com for $4.97 was a clearance item
that is no longer available. At the time, Amazon.com was not able to
properly update the availability estimates on our website before you
placed your order.
Because the item is no longer available, it has been cancelled from
your order. Please accept our sincere apologies for this error. You
already should have received a cancellation notice from Amazon.com.
Because this was an Amazon.com listing error for a clearance item with
limited availability, Macys.com cannot offer substitute merchandise
for a similar price. While we are unable to compensate you fully for
the disappointment this has caused, we would like to offer you a $5
Amazon.com Gift Certificate as a gesture of goodwill.
We appreciate your business and hope you consider Amazon.com and
Macys.com for future purchases.
