10 Things You Should Not Buy New

Buying DVDs used is kinda iffy--I've gotten some questionable quality discs (but they all played fine).

People definitely shouldn't buy shoes used. I hate the idea of slipping my tootsies into someone else's sweat--yuk! I don't even buy cheap shoes. That's why I gladly drop hundreds of dollars of a single pair of shoes. Quality over quantity is key when comes to shoes.

To come think of it, there are very few things in the world I will buy used--just books, CDs (sometimes), DVDs (rarely), and Halloween costume parts :)

Regarding the Jewelry portion of this tread.... I just bought an 18 inch pearl necklace from http://www.exoticglobalgifts.com/ this website for a $30.00. While they are freshwater pearls, they are nearly perfect, and compare very favorably with my wife's $1,300 strand. They look real as there are some small inperfections, which wouldn't be there if they ware fake. At this price its jewelry she can wear every day. I'm taking them for an appraisal this weekend if time permits before I head out of town for work.

This list seems pretty outdated. With hot deals sites out there ( I won't name the big one ) I have gotten so many things on this list for free or very little out of pocket. :money: When I go to a garage sale now I just shake my head because I can get most of this stuff cheaper new. I guess though for the average person who is not a slick dealer this article might be helpful.
I do agree with cars though. I haven't figured out yet how to get a new one for free. :heh:

Good article. My only question, what happened to taking in a stray? ;)

10. Pets: If you buy a puppy (or kitty) from a professional breeder or a pet store outlet, it can set you back anywhere from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars. On top of this, you'll need to anticipate additional fees and vet bills, too. Instead, adopt a pre-owned pet from your local animal shelter and get a new family member, fees, and vaccines at a substantially lower cost.

Recycled worms aren't on the list! :mmph: Otherwise, I 100% agree.

No way can i go thru and read 55 replies but for most software items, you cant legally buy it used at any rate...

and if you do, you could be buying a disc(s) that have been hacked by someone and set up to give you a virus. BAD idea

I actually bought a brand new Honda Civic a while back, but only because I was able to trade my 500$ minivan in for 4500$ (cash for clunkers) and get almost 1500 discount from the dealer. Making it so that out of pocket I have paid less brand new then the car is worth when it is 4 years old.
