Why on earth do they keep selling computers without SSD drives? It's like selling a new car with a tape deck for crying out loud.

because SSD is still too expensive on the scale of a mid-level/high-end desktop PC. 7200RPM and 10000RPM disks used to be the fastest thing on the planet and they were astronomically priced in the GB and TB range. Now they are cheap and still plenty fast. 1TB SSD is still too expensive for an assembly line desktop (adds $200-$300 to the cost.)
